I bought salvia leaves off of ebay super cheap.. and today I tried the quid method with about 15 leaves, chewing slowly over 1/2 an hour. To be fair I had also smoked a couple leaves before deciding the quid method (smoked to test that the leaves actually had salvinorin in them). I could never trip by smoking leaves, but I definitely get a very pleasant buzz off of them.
I was careful not to swallow. The taste was bad, but honestly not nearly as bad as I was expecting. I chewed the leaves for a bit over half an hour total.
About 15 minutes into it i was definitely feeling something. It came on surprisingly fast, at times I could even feel the coming up in little "waves". I was starting to forget about my body, I started processing the chewing of the leaves as if it were some sort of massive, giant crowd shouting in unison with each chew. My mouth felt like a massive void, like the size of a dam with particles rushing through it. No outward visuals yet, just feelings of various sensations overlapping.
Time really really clipped by for the next 15 minutes, it seemed more like about 5 minutes.
At the peak of the experience (about 25-60 minutes) it reminded me partially of being VERY stoned, partially of when I used to experiment smoking with 10x.. but without any sort of that bland drain on the body, and the whole plateau lasted a good 30 minutes... No outright visions per se. But peripheral vision danced... and sometimes my perspective seemed to shift. I think the most I did in this period was walk to the kitchen a couple times and note that patterns seemed to shift, and flutter, shadows seemed to waver. I listened to a little bit of music during the initial comedown and it was incredibly lush and terrific, when i closed my eyes i could see points of light and shape almost dancing with the music.
I sort of tripped on and off, at various moments I got lost in abstract columns of thought and was carried away for moments at a time. I never lost my bearings on reality completely at any point in the trip, however, although at one point I felt like I was communicating with some invisible energy field and could convince it to interact with physical objects (sort of telekinesis).. this lasted a few minutes.
I'm still coming down right now actually, quite smoothly. My body feels refreshed somehow. I think I like this salvia stuff.
My mistakes this round: doing it without any real intent. I was kind of in a rush, moving about and not really in the right headspace to relax and meditate. This would be quite lovely to experience in the summer in the forest or something. Or next time, all in the dark, listening to music.. I will also probably try more leaves as well, and see if there are higher plateaus possible with the quid method..
