Transcendent Compounds and Religious Freedom

Hiyall,

As you may be aware, the Australian Government is looking to make the cultivation of a huge number of plants illegal on the basis that they are considered "precursors" to mind altering substances.

This is a stupid idea, especially when one considers that DMT is rife througout the acacias and psilocybe mushrooms grow without hinderance throughout many parts of the country. There isn't any need to cultivate these, as nature makes sure that we have an adequate supply.

As part of its consultation process, the government has published a discussion paper and requested submissions to a number of questions raised by it.

Ominously, one key question not addressed is the issue of religious freedom and people who use these compounds in this context. While to be expected, it demonstrates what can only be described as a willful ignorance regarding these compounds on the part of the lawmakers.

I have made a submission, in which I explicitly acknowledge that I use these compounds as part of my religous practice and in which I put forward a defence for my use based on the protection of my religious freedoms. I have posted it to my website, along with links to the government website and another, which explains the seriousness of the proposed changes.

Sometimes (often) the policies of the Australian government, both Liberal and Labour, make me ashamed to be Australian.

One of the most foolish and counterproductive policies of every Australian government is a zero tolerance policy to drugs (those that the government calls illegal drugs - of course a multitude of pharamceuticals are ok because they involve big dollars - take for instance how many kids are dosed daily with ritalin and dexamphetamine for supposed ADHD).

Are government's policy ensures that organised crime continues to get richer and the users continue to be denied the help they need because of the reality of self incrimination that is an inherent risk of seeking help.

If you are up to it, I would encourage you to do up a submission yourself. You don't need to identify that you are using any of these compounds, but the more voices that we have banging on the drum, the more noise we will make and the greater the chance that we'll see some movement in the right direction.

I am glad to see that the spirit has moved you to answer the call in this way. I honestly feel like this is another way to have a peaceful revolution. i meant to greg. im surprised he came back after that wave of childlike shenigans that came over the site. it's good to see we've all moved on.
