Hello,
I am wondering, truthfully, how dangerous is it to consume a mushroom from the wild if you know what you are doing. I am not sure how to differentiate between an expert and beginner mycologist, and not sure what I would classify myself. I have found some cyanescens growing, and have researched a lot about them. Every one I have picked looks to me as a cyanescen. They do not have any veil, bruise blue, hollow stem, wavy cap, orange to brownish cap. I have not taken a spore print yet, but I will get on that. I am just wondering if all this stuff I hear about eating mushrooms and you dying is propaganda because everyone who knows nothing about the identification of mushrooms tells me to be careful, but they know nothing. I believe it to be just plain old propaganda, and if you know what you are doing, you should be fine. Or is there something I am missing. To me the difference between a Galerina and Cyanescen are a lot, but apparently they get confused. The first thing that I could tell you is that Cyanescen do not have a veil and the Galerina does. So really, it is that big of a risk if you know somewhat what you are doing? As in not an expert mycologst, but rather just someone who researched the information off the internet?
peace & love
