Little question to all fellow Salvia D. growers:

Just made an interesting observation, rather curious if I'm the only one.

Approx half a year ago I ordered a SD cuttling from az.
Initialy it has been very very picky about humidity, had to put it into a "humidity tend" (jar) for the first couple of weeks.
It almost died when i tried to remove it too early just for a couple of hours.
When getting older it pretty much lost this touchyness.

This is nothing new, discussed here and on many other places a lot.

Ok, my plant is doing very well, its already higher than me, recently I took cuttlings from it.

So I currently have a couple of "second generation" SD's baby-plants.
Just a few weeks old, but they seem to be growing well.

Now to the observation: This second generation baby-plants have no sensivity to humidity at all. (Unlike to cuttling from az)

This was pretty unexcepted ...
Probably inherited from the mother plant ???

Is this normal behaviour ?
It's nice because it makes growing easier, need a lot less attention/care etc.

Anyone else who made the same obsevation or is this a rare mutation *g*
???

they should require it, because they arent rooted. the cuttings cant get enough water through the roots so they need it through the leaves.
i guess it depends on climate and size of the cuttings, *******' cuttings are really small (imo).
you got a pic of your huge salvia? ^^

Interesting.... Bombski's reply makes sense....

My own plants which I have for about six weeks, seem to do fine now in 80% humidity.

Bombsky's statement indeed makes a lot of sense :]

I completely forgot that I put the cuttlings into a jar of water for 1-2 weeks before planting them ... so they got 100% humitidy for a few weeks ..

so not so much unexcepted that they arent sensitive anymore when planted ... stupid me :)

A pic of my SD "mother-plant" is in the photo gallery.
(imagine +approx 30cm -- that's her current size)
