Doshas and Ayurvedic approach

Almost all the revered Ayurvedic texts talk about various body types or prakritis of people. The constitution of three humours in the body -- vata, pitta and kapha – determines the body type of a person. Ayurvedic practitioners of any kerala ayurvedic center identify the body type of the patient before commencing the treatment procedures.

There are some qualities associated with each humour and any imbalance in these humours will result in physical or mental disorders. Ayurvedic practitioners closely examine the symptoms of the disease and thus they can identify which humour has been responsible for the disorders. They will then prescribe certain therapies, herbal medicines or diets to bring back the balance of humours.

For example, if there is an imbalance in the pitta humour, the body of the patient will show many symptoms such as heartburn, digestive problems, and lack of sleep in the early hours of the morning. They will be usually short-tempered and easily irritable. They will also feel thirsty all the time and will get into arguments easily. Ayurvedic practitioners say that an increase in the Pitta dosha occurs mainly due to a diet that contains hot and spicy food. Fasting or over- exposure to extreme hot temperature too will contribute to the imbalance of pitta dosha and the practitioners suggest a diet which will help in overcoming the disorders.
