Either highest watt you can find T5 fluro strip light, Compact Fluorescent (CFL) 200W or LED boards are the new thing :D

Id say a 600W HPS is what you want tho 8)

I think I am going to get the highest output T5 I can.

Should be good if i just get one T5 for 1-2 (possibly 3) plants right?

just get a 600w like sticki says and grow 1-2-3 plants under that theyre cheap as nowadays.you can get one with a timer for about 80 quid. grow the plants bigger to fill the grow area.
i lost the pic of the third plant when i did three under a 600w, cant remember exactly what i got from them @15oz in total

Fluorescent light comes in many colors, you need 27k for flowering and 65k for vegging for most effecient growth.
Anything in between will work but slower and yield.
I think t5 bulbs are best, then cfl, then t8, last is t12 but all work it just 1 is more effecient than other.

I'm a big fan of cfls because it makes temperature control a breeze (pun haha get it?). Anyways, if you have plenty of space and you don't mind conspicuous notes in your house HPS is the best but will eat through your electric bill. I've also been a fan of ingenuity so I recommend going to local hardware store and checking out there outdoor lights section. Find some fluorescent that is at least 5500 lumens and rewire (very simple) so you can use it with a regular plug. If you're lazy, five to six CFLs 100 watt is more then enough. Good luck.

What I have right now is one T5 that is 48 inches, 54 watts, and 6400k. I also have two 24 inches, 54 watts, 6400k. So this will be useful for vegging and I need different ones for flowering?

was three plants in different pots under 1 600w, the plants was bushy because when i took cuttings, id put them under 12/12 for a day or two as they rooted, then back too 18/6, to make them branch out.
ive had bud rot a few times when ive tried growing huge single colas, im not keen on real tall plants either, it seems to me like im wasting light, the tall plants look cool.. but yield suffers for me
from a legal point of view.. id rather get caught with three big plants than 40 small ones lol ( which all yield the same)
they was part of an experiment to see if i could get 1gram per watt, growing large plants in soil, using a simple technique. and no flashy expensive feeds.
i didnt quite succeed, but i learnt a lot :)

Yep, you can use those for veg,
for flowering 2100K is best, but they don't sell it everywhere
(2700K is easier to find, but a bit less efficient)

i have had some success with energy saving bulbs such as the Envirolight 125W. they are still quite expensive, but have a high output
