A friend of mine uses Paroxetine, an SSRI. It has been prescribed to her because she is suffering from depression.
Me and my friend would like to do ayahuasca (not the brew, 4 grams of Peganum Harmala follwed 40 minutes later by pure DMT in a capsule, so I guess it's not really ayahuasca) together sometime.

Does anyone know if this interacts with the Paroxetine? How should we go about? Abstain from the paroxetine for a day? Or more? How will the MAOI interact with the Paroxetine? My bet would be this is not a smart thing to do. I am asking this merely because I am not a hundred percent sure. I would much rather not do it and wait a few months until she's off the stuff and do it some time then, than there being any potential risk involved.

Thanks for answers in advance!

I guess you would probably have to stop for a few days to a week at least.

I'm no expert either, but I would wait until she's off it.

My fiancee's doctor told her to make sure to not take any MAOIs for up to six weeks after discontinuation of her fluoxetine (Prozac). I read an article somewhere that agreed with this, but I can't remember where. I think that it's dangerous because it can cause a huge buildup of serotonin. It should be okay to ask her doctor about it, I don't think that any MAOIs are illegal, just the DMT. Maybe call a pharmacy (or a different hospital or medical center) and ask if you're worried about anonymity.

I wouldn't risk it. SRRI's are usually long-term treatments with a gradual on set and a very gradual shrinking neureological process as well after the last dose is taken.

Don't do this. You won't find a way out by rushing these kind of things. Getting back to baseline with no pills and mainainting life itself first is already a shift up. From there on ayahuasca will be another shift up of where you want to be.

This is so sick!!!

http://www.ssristories.com/index.php

But be aware that you can't just stop suddenly., the website self claims: Withdrawal can often be more dangerous than continuing on a medication. It is important to withdraw extremely slowly from these drugs, usually over a period of a year or more, under the supervision of a qualified specialist.

All right thx for answers everybody!
I'm not going to do it of course, perhaps sometime when she is off and living happy we will try it sometime.

But what about smoking?

I mean smoking DMT :) I have my doubts because I know dmt and serotonin are related someway and it may interfere or effect her process of fighting the depression or something..

"Wait for a few months ."

Wait untill she has her medicine out of her system for a few months . It will probably take that long to get it out of her system and for her body and mind to get balanced to life without it .

"My fiancee and I somke weed every day, and she is on an ssri"

That has nothing to do with ayahuasca or DMT . Personaly i dont think that prescription medicines and psychoactive drugs mix . Maybe it might look or feel like they do to a person with isssues but that means nothing . The long term effects cant be judged .

People taking medicines and psychoactive drugs are abusing both . They are polytoxic . And they are giving the whole scene a bad reputation .

no - maoi is completely different from an ssri

maoi + ssri or mdma = serotonin sysdrome in high enough doses, but either way its probably neurotoxic

Uhm i don't know much about this, but doesn't the DMT follow the same root as Serotonin/Psilocybin etc?

no paroxetine with DXM!!
Is very dangerous!!

I don't think you should try this at all ;)

Have you read about the nasty side effects?
