What exactly are antioxidants and how can they protect my body? I have heard a lot about antioxidants which act as a shield for our body. How can I get more of these? What exactly are they and how can they protect my body?

Antioxidants are nutrients that prevent the oxidation of the body from oxidative stress. Antioxidants are produced in the body in small amounts to fight oxidative stress. It was all balanced out in the past. Oxidative stress can cause damage to the brain and body over time. We are now faced with genetically modified organics, steroids and groth hormones in the meat, polluted air, lack of fiber, increased levels of radiation, stress, improper sleep, depression, fear, toxins, an improper diet lacking fruits vegetables and essential nutrients, a sedentary lifestyle, ect. Fruits like blackberries have antioxidants. Sesame seeds have sesamin, sesamolin, and sesamol. Sesamol is one of the most powerful antioxidants, yet most of us don't consume it. Sesamol can also protect us from mild radiation. It fights free radicals, is neuroprotective, and can help prevent cancer. Sesame seeds and sesame seed oil are good. I'm surprised at how underrated it is. It's also shocking that demand for sesamol and sesame seeds contine to drop as we grow less and less of it. We import more than we grow. Part of a healthy diet. Why is healthy foods so much more expensive than unhealthy food? Why?

Money better than health... :'(

You can also find antioxydants in lyceum berries, cranberries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, prunes, cabbages, red cabbages, tomatoes, yellow pepper, asparagus, beets, artichokes, potatoes, white beans... There are a lot of fruits and vegetables that contain antioxydants, some are very expensive like cranberries and lyceum berries. I think I remember I've heard somewhere that there are in pomegranates too.

Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of antioxydants.

Oh that is nice to know, I heard about detox foot pads.. do you think perhaps if you haven't been eating too well and excising and you want to cleanse these could give you a head start? or do I just have to buckle down and do it by eating right first? It just really takes an awful lot of discipline for me.

An antioxidant is a molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules. Oxidation is a chemical reaction that transfers electrons or hydrogen from a substance to an oxidizing agent. (wiki)

Antioxidant foods help to protect the bones, brain, colon, heart etc. To keep your colon cleaned and maintain a healthy lifestyle, it will be always good to follow a cleansing and healing antioxidant diet. One of my friends was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis. The doctor at Toronto said that bad diet was the culprit of a lot of illness of this sort and suggested to get a colon cleanse ( http://www.coloncleansetoronto.ca/ ) and a high antioxidant diet to help with his chronic pancreatitis. It is very important to increase the dietary intake of antioxidants to help your body defend itself from serious illness.
