yea i've heard the dominance thing before
chimpanzees smile and bear their teeth as a sign of aggression or fear
we smile and bear our teeth when we're happy, its a lost instinct but teeth being visible is likely a dominance/aggression thing

Maybe, if it was a dominance thing, we yawn when we're tired because its a way of curb other animals from attacking us in our sleep, seeing that we have teeth to defend with..
