What really gells me to J.M.Allegro's theories is his explaining the biblical myth of 'God made flesh' and the motif of 'virgin born' etc
it far more fits a mushroom than it does a plant. For one, they didn't know about spores as they had no microscopes, so assumed that mushrooms miraculously appeared. So for psychoactive mushrooms, like the Mazetecs idea of 'God's Flesh' being their shrroms so it would be for the early Christians
'Thunderborn'. it all fits SO well, if it WASN'T 'right' it is--get me?
