Hi everone, this is my first post, hope your all well.

With many drugs there is always the advice that you should have a sitter in order to minimise any risks (especially salvia, and probably mushrooms on a high dose). The problem i have had is that a lot of people ive used as sitters have been absoloutely useless. They either get in the way, dont know what to do or even make things worse. I think there should be a 'sitters guidebook' that bullet points what to do in certain circumstances depending on substance, dose, environment and the state of the person your sitting for. I was thinking something like this -
rule one of sitting - dont let the tripper come to any harm what so ever.
rule two of sitting - dont let the tripper use a telephone to phone anybody.
rule three of sitting - Be reassuring and comforting toward the tripper if they start to freak out.
rule four of sitting.......................etc.

If there was a guide book that was like this (but better) then sitters would know what they were getting into and how to handle the situation. Ive been in situations before were its crossed my mind 'oh shit! should i phone an ambulance? should i notify there parents? luckily i never in either situation, but i would have liked some guidelines on what to do in sticky situations. Any ideas or contributions?

I'm working on a (short) Dutch text for a website in this regard. When it's done, I'll translate it to English.

Welcome to the site Voodooste ,

Its a very good idea ......and part of a sensible legalise it / free / controled use for responsible adults strategy . The same as the certificates and exams for coffee shop / smart shop people . We need drug education in our sense of the word . Teach people how to use drugs responsibly and for their benefit .

i look forward to reading your transalated sitters guide CaduceusMercurius, and the video by maps is very interesting, thanks for the link mystic warrior. thanks for the warm welcome god!
I was alittle drunk when i wrote my post and i think what i had in mind was a quick guide to sitting, that was small and concise enough to be able to be printed on a credit card sized flyer that could be given to sitters or psychonauts in order to give to there sitters. i think i might be asking too much as there are probably a good 20 to 30 dos and donts when you sit down and think of them all and fitting them all ona small card is probably difficult to do. anyway it was just an idea. ill try and write up my own list of golden rules in the next few days and i'll post em and see what you think.

You can show your sitters this video
Thanks! I didn't know it was on Google Video. Now I could download it. :D

Did you want to write subtitles for this video?
Yes, it was second on my list.

Here's the paragraph I wrote about the role of the sitter:

Tripping with a sitter

If you want to experiment with higher dosages, it's nice to trip in the presence of a sitter. A sitter stays sober to take care of your needs so that you have nothing to worry about. When you are thirsty, the sitter gets you something to drink, and when you're cold the sitter turns up the heater or gets you an extra blanket. When you feel confused, the sitter calms you and encourages you to pay attention to the experience. For the rest the sitter just quietly sits nearby, for example reading a book in another room. The sitter is not supposed to act as a psycho-analyst by asking you all kinds of questions or trying to stear the direction of your trip. The role of the sitter is to passively facilitate your trip. What a sitter can do is comfort you with his words or touch, or if things do get troublesome get help.

A manual for sitters is a great idea.
I anticipate reading it caduceus!

I'm not really working on a manual for sitters, but a general guide to tripping. A concise rather than a comprehensive guide. I think the paragraph I wrote above contains all the information a sitter needs, though I may still add some things to it.

I still anticipate reading it.

It is good when a sitter has some psychedelic experience himself.

A sitter should not interfere with the trip and leave the tripper alone most of the time. A sitter should not be somebody who watching you every step. A sitter is a person who is around when you need him and almost invisible when you don't.
He/She should have something to do (reading or gaming)
being a trip sitter is boring most of the time.

Personaly when i`ve been a sitter i always had fun . I always seemed to get a sort of high from it , like some of the peoples trip rubbed off on me .

I don't know.... I don't think you HAVE to be high in order to enjoy someone who is tripping....

It's enough when you love this person and this person loves you, so that there can't be an atmosphere being created, which would be unpleasant for the tripper or both of the two...

Well it's not guaranteed, because internal issues of the tripper can be reflected to his seen and "felt" environment during the trip, but as long as there's a "connection" between the two and the tripper is not on a real bad trip, then there should be no problem...

I wouldn't like a sitter who would look down on you when you had a real bad trip and would make shame of yourself, because of the fear you would be feeling. The sitter should always try to help, but only if he thinks it is necessary and he should know a bit about the drug the other one is takin too,... for safety reasons and when something goes wrong.

Of course the sitter has to be a FRIEND....

Peace.
