Hoping to have my first shroom experience, I was wondering if you can somewhat "control" and "direct" the trip. I recently tried Sally D. and new what to expect, but it seems the brain makes you feel "fear" whether you want to or not. Are shrooms the same?

fear can also appear on shrooms. especially if you are in a bad mental shape, comming up or cumming down can be really exhausting. a strong trip is such a mindf*ck that controlling or directing is not really possible.
to avoid fear ensure that you have a nice set and setting and that you feel fine yourself! just try to relax and let everything happen :D

Mushrooms are totally different from salvia.

It's possible, but it's all about letting go. As soon as you succesfully do this there is no more need/concept/perception of control. I find this works easier on higher doses but when you resist the slap in the face will be more intense.

What dose are you planning on taking?

They are different.
Salvia works on the opioid receptors.
Mushrooms work on the Serotonin receptors.

maybe it's best to just let it happen.

Sometimes it is best to just let it happen, but sometimes, when you are really getting mindfucked by the shrooms over and over again it is also time to stand up and fight! It often helped me to get up and say "no, you won't bring me down! I am stronger than you!"
I can't exactly tell you when it is time for what, but usually when it's time to back down and just accept everything, you will know it. There's just no other choice.
If you feel you still have a choice, then try to get up and fight - it brings yourself into another mindset ("I am strong and I will defend myself").

I don't know if this makes any sense to you, but maybe it will at some point :)

Well honestly control is a conceptual thing. Does control mean you won't do anything self-destructive or does it mean understanding everything that's happening. The former is more likely then the latter. Here's what I can recommend:
1) PLEASE be smart about setting. Don't plan it at a party, at home with your parents, in a stressful environment. Just to be safe, at least 12 hours of free time is recommended just to have time to think about what happened as well.
2) Dose low (1-2 grams?) and then slowly add each time you trip.
3) Turn off phone, tell everyone you're in a phone-free zone, on a trip, etc.
4) Have a sitter just in case, someone you feel comfortable with.
5) Don't think you have to be sitting over a waterfall with a rainstick and a yogi to have a memorable trip.
6) A couch, in a quiet room, with some water and easy access to a bathroom and peaceful music is definitely a close ideal.

Good luck, and remember, make sure you don't have any huge deadlines or large life problems in the near future prior to tripping.

Uh... Because he doesn't want to die / get hurt / arrested...
Loosing control is a rational fear.

Set and setting!

i assume he meant constructively, not related to just not being afraid. nobody wants to be afraid... a better question would be, what do you wish to gain from controlling and directing the trip. where would you direct it?

shrooms are very different to sally...but you are the same who can experience both, so even if shrooms can make your brain feel fear in a similar yet different way, there is no need to fear the shrooms for that or fear yourself for fearing it.
it is just more comfortable without fear, and the good thing is that you can make a difference so feel good for that and take care of good set and setting to make it a positive experience!! the advices above are really helpful too!!! sometimes when you encounter fear on a trip you just need to let go and most often that will help!!! happy tripping!!! :D

peace :weedman:

When I got really mindfucked by shrooms, good music and a walk outside usually chase away all negative feelings.

Also, when taking any psychedelic, you should be ready for pain. I sometimes visit hell and heaven in the same trip. I like this duality. You learn from the pain too ;)

Psychoid a dit:

I quite agree, I think I have gained more from some of my bad trips than I did from my gooders. Like everyone else has said, just let go, especially on high doses. If you're panicking, your favourite tunes can be a great help, try other things that comfort you (like Psychoid suggested, a walk maybe). If you are really stuck, call up someone close who you can talk to, some times I need to be shown love if the shrooms are really raping my head. Still, like I said I think I've gained more from the harder trips, so even when I'm feeling terrible, I try to push on through by myself.
