Hello.

My two salvias are 3 months old, quite healthy and about 30cm high, I have kept them in a glass jar for 3 months, to keep the humid high.
I give them water in about after every 6 days.

The question is, when should I remove the jar and how will salvias get used to the lower humid level? I don't want to kill my plants. How will I know when the plants are ready inaf to tolerate the lower humid level?

Hi,

I kept the glass over them for three weeks. Just yesterday, I prepared a humidity tent with 90/100% humidity and the plants are in there since one day and doing well.

According to the grower's guid, the best way to get the plants to grow out of the tent, is by getting them used to living room conditions slowly. Start today, take off the glass for an hour (max!) and keep an eye at the plants all the time. If you feel they respond badly, put the glass back on. Extend the glassless time by a maximum of one hour each following day. After about a week or two, they should be used to living room conditions.

Keep in mind, this is from a book, I'm in the process of doing this myself so don't blame me if it kills your plants ;)

i also have 3 salvia plants of 3.5months. i took the glass away when they were younger than 1 month.
if your plants are 30cm, i dont think there will be any problem if u remove it. take it off for about 30 mins and check on them, if the leaves are hanging just spray them and put the glass back. if the plant looks OK you can leave the glass off.. just check every hour orso.
but, as i said: if your plants are 30cm, i dont think there will be any problem if u remove it.
you happen to have a picture of your salvia plants? you can find mine @ http://bombski.djlorenzo.nl/

good luck

I think that after three months your plants should be old enough to do without the glass. Keep in mind that you don't keep them over the central heating , think that was what killed my plants the last time.

Yeah.. i removed tent when plant was 1.5month old, and i watered it as ussual, but then rot stared on stem (see brown dots on stem post)... i just dont know what the hell went wrong...

I started getting them used to living room conditions slowly. Yesterday I removed to glass for 45min and the leaves went already limp, so I'll contiou doing that until they accept the living room humid.

Yes, I've some pictures about my plants, but they are old ones. Tomorrow I'll photograph them and post the link.

Thank you for your advice, everybody.

Took the glasses of last saturday but I've put the plants in a three storie greenhouse with 100% humidity. They seem to do fine. Had some problems with little white bugs but I resolved that.

I'm gonna wait a few weeks before getting them used to livingroom conditions.

HeartCore a dit:

Those bugs must have been tripping out of their little minds!

i have (had) some small bugs in my ground as well, i think its a "varenrouwmug" (small white 'worms' in the ground which alter become a very small fly). they are still flying around a bit, but they dont seem to harm my plants.
what bugs did you have and how did u get rid of them? i think they worms in the ground are possibly eating roots.

I bought some pokon insectide but want to switch to some organic stuff. The product I have can be safely used up untill 3 weeks before harvest.

I will check the exact name when I get home from work and let you know.

nah nevermind it, i already got some (biological) insectide about a month ago (when the bugs appeared).
i never used it because i didnt see any damage to the plants and id rather not use insectide. thats why i was asking ;)
thanks anyway
ps i have "spruzit - tegen luizen, rupsen en andere insecten"
