I found an anti-drug website called Foundation for a Drug-Free World at drugfreeworld.org (owned by a scientologist group, if you look into it)

They have "testimonies" from "real people" stating that marijuana is a gateway drug. And they have free pamphlets you can either order or view online.

Just through reading the one about marijuana you can see they have no citations or anything, just horseshit.

Can we get a number of members from here and pick apart each drug pamphlet, support it with studies etc. and type it up and send it back to them?

possibly also alert some independent media source as well..

any suggestions lemme know

Yesterday I was watching a show called, "The Drs" where they actually said, "If you smoke marijuana you WILL grow breasts" I heard this right as I was inhaling a huge hash rip outta my bong, they made me cough/laugh for a good 15 minutes. The sad part is, the masses that don't realize it's propaganda!

I think this is either the third or fourth topic about drugfreeworld (and probably not the last, lol). I checked it, it's the third. The other two are here and here.

ok.
but it just seems like (in the other 2 posts) we talk shit about the website for a bit, laugh about it, talk about the world, drugs, and that's it.

i mean, how about we DO something?
is there not, for example, an independent news source that we could send a transcript of their pamphlets with all corrections (citing various scientific studies, etc.) and inform this news source that we have sent the same transcript with said scientific information to drugfreeworld.org as well

because i phoned them yesterday, had a little back and forth with the guy for a bit, and then asked "if i were to supply you with scientific studies showing your information in the pamphlets is wrong, would you change it?" to which he agreed they would, after their "researchers" (oh how i wish they wouldn't call propagandists that) looked into it.

what i am saying, expose?

they say they're after providing good and truthful drug information yet they do the opposite.

yes? no?

bump for interest's sake??

I think your idea is wonderful, but you'll have to be prepared to do it all by yourself. Out of all psychonauts, there's only a small percentage that actually engages in such projects. And very often those psychonauts are already engaged in one or more equally interesting projects, so they won't have time to help you.

The effect of your idea is dependent on the news source that's going to publicize or promote the end result of your endeavors. Expect very little or no feedback from the Scientology Church itself, except perhaps a law suit.

I'm not saying it's impossible to find volunteers to help you (especially amongst your friends in real life), just that it's very unlikely, or that their contribution will be minimal and you're going to end up doing most of the work yourself.

Yes i have three days off this weekend so i have time to get baked and meticulously go through one, ill start on weed and hopefully have enough to post a draft around tuesday.

Sounds like they have alcohol and cannabis mixed up. Poor souls...

I just can't imagine how they can say such things with a straight face.

Reminds me of Dr. Phil stating Salvia is addictive.

I heard datura was the gateway drug. :(

They certainly didn't tough about the female audience when stating this..

gonzebo, do you have an idea how big is the influence of this site on the masses? is it well known to the crowd?

Does it have much support from the internauts?

1) Any suggestions as to an effective news source, then?
2) What would be the grounds for a lawsuit if all I am doing is essentially providing links to research?

No idea, but that's just how the Scientology folks typically respond to challenges of any kind: threaten you with their lawyers. For example because everything on their drugfreeworld website is copyrighted material (?), or whatever. Just don't expect a meaningful dialogue with them.

Exactly, just the threat of a lawsuit (legit or not) with all the time, money and hassle that comes with it is enough to dissuade most people

I'm pretty sure copyright won't be a problem since you don't aim to make money. You could with equal right sue them for spreading false information while they know that it is wrong because you provided them with scientific studies and they should have acted on it. Some could of course be said for most government propaganda, but you can make a case out of it and make them pay for disinforming the masses.

True. I just checked out the site and couldn't find a copyright notice anywhere.

I also noticed there's a very short Wikipedia page about the organization. Now if you study the Wikipedia rules a bit and register an account, you can use that page to debunk all their claims and theories with references to scientific studies. I've already revised a couple of other Wikipedia pages that way. If you play by the rules, no one will be able to edit or remove your contributions.

Mmmmmh,

too much acid over saturday has left me scrappy, I will be able to post quotes on their commital statements, mostly it seems to be generalised statements that are easily disagreed with.

Hope no one else's head hurts, at least not in this way,
