Perlite?? Vermiculite??

Does anyone know if you can use perlite instead of vermiculite in the substrate mixture for mushrooms?? If so, what are the bad sides of using perlite?? I went to the store yesterday lookin' for vermiculite, but all they had was perlite, so that's why I'm asking. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what BRF is. I mean can i mix perlite with brown rice flour to make a substrate to innoculate my spores with. I know I should use vermiculite, but will perlite work??
