Ignorance dictates the western mind.
There aren't many people aware of the fact that Nazareth, the supposed birthplace of Jesus (which it wasn't since he never existed), was famous because of a big Osiris/Dyonosys sanctuary nearby. There aren't also many people aware of the fact that history as we know it, especially the history put forth by the catholic church since let's say, 200-300 CE, is a falsified history,
There are even less people aware of the fact that the character of Paul, wasn't the person as the bible would want you to believe: 'the big heretic hunter'. Before the shadow of the cross fell over Jeruzalem (to blatantly quote Terence once more

), there was no difference between paganism & christianity and Paul was known as a big gnostic leader by the majority of pneumatic Christians.
Jewish scholars, as Christians, love to inform you that Greek philosophers where inspired by Moses while it was the other way around, the writers of he Moses story where inspired by Paganism and Plato (among other things) and the Jesus story is in essence the same thing, rewritten to appeal to the people who lived in that time.
Most people are not aware of the historic fact that nobody believed Jesus Christ was anything else than a myth until roughly 200 years after the story was conveived.
The story of Jesus, with all miracles, resurrecting Lazarus, being in the tombe for three days etc..., is far from unique. When I first read about this, there where at least 15 other stories known that told the exact same story only these stories where not situated in Israel but other countries and where hundreds sometimes thousands of years older. The last time I checked, this number has gone up to 30.
One satirist from the beginning of the common era commented intelligently that in all countries people celebrated the myth of the dying godman while the Christians want us to believe that THEIR dying godman, actually really lived, which was as preposterous a suggestion then, as it is now.
The real issue is not religion but the people who follow it and choose to live in denial and refuse to look at the evidence presented. People choose to believe books that are thousands of years old, haven't been decently translated until recently and have been orchestrated by proven monsters (just read some early Roman history to figure out what a monster the founder of literalist Christianity was).
As the gnostics where supposed to say back then:
'Religion (believing) is for peasants who lack the experience of the one true God that we are all'
This experience has been prohibited and prosecuted for 2000 years now. It's not a joke to say:
"the war on drugs is the protestant continuation of the catholic inquisition and witch hunts'.
