I recently ordered myself some salvia-- both the powerful extract and the leaves. I don't want to smoke it because I'm an aspiring classical music singer. I've decided to use it sublingually. It will be my first time. Any tips, warnings, or comments that will help me have a smooth trip? :?: :?:

Smoke out of a bong with clean cold water, use a torch lighter for better combustion, hold the lighter on the Salvia during the entire hit, and don't let the smoke sit in the chamber for too long.
Have a sitter around just in case, and check out http://www.salvia.net/en/usage.htm and possibly read up on other peoples trip reports.

It's DEFFINATELY something to do when you are in a calm, happy peace of mind. Lastly, always respect Lady Salvia!

What strength of extract did you get?

I agree with Justin, get a nice bong and some cold water.

I differ in that if its your first time with salvia I dont recommend you rip on it too hard, salvia + torch lighter = very hot smoke.

Give it a light rip, hold it for about 15 seconds, if you feel alert still take another and immediately put the pipe down, lay back and enjoy.

Depending on your tollerance at the 45 second mark when your exhaling the 2nd hit you can expect it to take over and whisk you away to salvia land.

During your trip you can expect to be unaware that your tripping. If your alone and its a good trip its absolutely excellent. If someone's with you, besides keeping you from hurting yourself, dont expect them to be able to do anything about a bad trip. As long as your in a good place mentally before the trip you wont have a bad time.

This is just my theory about sally...
If your the kind of person who's fight or flight mechanism leads them to quick reactions, and what I mean by that is you know instantly and act fast if your in danger, you will problably want a sitter just in case. My reasoning about this is if your tollerance is low or you get a real good dose, you wont know you smoked it and if something scares you, you might beat up your TV or sprint into a wall.

On the other hand, flawed as I am, instead of fight or flight I tend to get paralyzed when I'm scared so although that makes me something of a darwin reject, it works to my advantage when I'm not in control of my actions. Just something to think about.

Let me add in to my original post, if you want a milder trip you can try the Quid (think I spelt that right) method, which consists of basically chewing the leaves. You will have a milder trip, but it will last significantly longer.

I have only smoked 10x Extract and I've had about 6 or 7 trips on it. 2 or 3 of those times I ended up having a bad trip, but 10 minutes later the effects were worn off so no biggie. I have also had a couple of epiphanies on high doses.

I think a lot of people will agree that the most important thing when doing most psychedelics is the state of mind your in when you take it.
And with that I'm going to beeeeeeed.

Did you guys all miss the second sentence? Says he doesn't want to smoke it.

But yeah, the sublingual method is a lot milder. The trip is not nearly as intense as when you smoke it. So you don't really have to worry about it, especially if you have used mushrooms/lsd before. The extract might be a little stronger, but I guess it would be harder to keep in the mouth (as the leaves are so ground up.) In my opinion it is pretty disgusting, cause the taste is terrible, but if you want a mild Salvia trip it is the way to go.

I had made the assumption that he was going to only use the leaf sublingually. I cant imagine putting pieces of flakey extract in my mouth.

It 'seems' like it wouldn't work, you give quid's a chew every so often to juice them but how could you do that with extract.

Hmmm.

Yeah, I've always wondered if you could take extract orally, but I've never heard of that either. Tincture or traditional Mazatec beverage is probably the way to go for oral ingestion... far more expensive though I guess. I'd love to try the quid method someday too, but apparently to have anything approaching a trip you will have to chew on a huuge mouthful of bad-tasting leaves for 20 minutes.

Smoking is so much more effective.. I suppose a vaporizer could work? Inhalation but without smoke.. might be a bit intense though.

As for preparing yourself.. hmm. I know a lot of people accustomed to psychedelics who miss out on the salvia experience entirely. Everyone does have different tolerance levels to be sure, but there is also an element at some level where you have to learn how to let yourself go into the experience, learn how to listen, otherwise you can miss out entirely and just feel a wierd buzz! Even at smaller doses I've had pretty interesting short trips once i learned to just close my eyes and let myself float away. Only a couple times have I ever had the overwhelming reality-shattering salvia experience, but I don't tend to do large amounts usually..

I have no idea how the oral method compares..

You can put some of that extract into a little bit of alcoholic beverage and use this orally. The alcohol helps to carry it through the skin. Don't use too much beverage as then you have a big mouthful to deal with, and you have spread out and dilluted the Salvia. The beverage should be fairly strong, but endurable. Liqueur or something you mix sounds about right.

It absorbs throughout the mouth, not just under the tongue. The back of the throat is a good area of absorption.

Generally, with oral method people have more issues with experience being too weak than too strong, but I have heard of people who took especially large dose orally and blasted off to realm similar to smoked extract space. Be reasonable.
