Drug that causes motovation?

Sex + blackmail.

If your girlfriend happen to say "No more sex until you've done this and that", I can safely assume you'll get your stuff done.

Or you'll cheat on her.

What about drugs that build character?

In my experience, "motivational drugs" like amphetamines or cocaine (or coffee, ephedrine, whatever) don't help you get motivated to study, if you don't want to study. I mean you can take amphetamines now, but then there's still a lot of porn to be watched. Or you could go for a walk. And meet friends. And party. And when you return home two days later coming down, you're even less motivated to study.

In my case I just quit university at some point because I realized I will never have fun with this, I really don't want to do it. I should have quit earlier, that's my only regret.

you cannot get motivated artificially, that's a stupid question. Motivation by definition comes from yourself. If you are not interested resp. have no interest in doing something (e.g. good marks, good job), you won't get motivated. Full stop.

I agree with Restin here. There is no drug that gets you motivated. If you don't like what you're doing start thinking about your life and what you want to do with it. You won't live forever.

I'm with Forkbender on this one. You can't simply take a drug to be motivated. You have to motivate yourself.

You have to motivate yourself.

But that's exactly the problem. How do you motivate yourself? For example i can't motivate myself to do things i really don't like. I can try, i can be optimistic, i can tell my self a milion times that i do enjoy the thing i have to do. But there is no motivation, and instead of being motivated i feel as if i torture myself. And no one likes to torture him/her self.

Anyway, i am convinced that taking drugs don`t make a difference. But i understand the problem. It's not all about what you want and what not. It's not about what you like or what you dislike. It's a lack of a feeling called motivation. Of course every person is different, but in my case it's not the mind set.

^Can you want thoughts? Tough one...

I think you can work with your thoughts, rearrange them, explore them, and make more out of them. As for motivation, I think reflecting on what it means to be the subject of your existence, like the relationship "I"-"action"-"object", could help... Read Sartre and Nietzsche, perhaps.

"get your gf or bf to blackmail you" that one was the best
it never worked for me, i kept seducing her and eventually she would give in so i had the sex and the joy to do nothing :P
anywhoo i find that drugs don't help when it comes to volition...like many said already:
either you want to do something and you just do it, or you don't (so you start building excuses)
drugs can only help along th way in performing a task...if they help.

You can never be motivated to do things you don't like, you can only learn to like them.

+1

If you aren't motivated to do something, the only thing drugs will do, is give you more energy to put off whatever you were supposed to do.

That said, if (big if) motivation is just a chemical signal in the brain, why can't we simply induce it? I realize that there is no drug currently that can do so, but I'm curious if it would be possible. (This of course aside from whether or not it is ethical to do so.)

I know alcohol is a great motivator towards violent behavior ...so i guess what kind of motivation are we looking for?
that's the ethical concern: motivation towards something constructive or destructive?

Motivation is a strange beast... I have been told by people they were impressed by my motivation to learn about lighting and cinematography. The fact is I never even considered I had to motivate myself. I just read stuff because it was interesting. And then I tried it, and read more. That wasn't learning, that wasn't motivating myself, that was just fun.

On the other hand, like I said before, I was never able to make myself study things because I had to. No matter what I did, it wasn't possible.
