after reading that one could get mellow from drinking wormwood tea, i decided to try some before i made the rest into absinthe, there is nothing on this earth that could compare to how vile even the smallest amounts of wormwood tastes: 1 shot wormwood, 1 shot sugar, wormwood is so bitter i couldn't taste the sugar or anything, given the chance i would rather suck on an asprin wrapped in an old dirty sock, that doesn't even come close to how vile wormwood is, my tongue has shriveled, i'm thinking of cutting it out to bannish the taste.

Haha, dear friend, there's no any herb more bitter than the "white whild wormwood" that's what my ansestors have always said.

There's also a not so bitter variety of the plant, but it contains less psychoactive substance.

The psychoactive substance is NOT the same as the bitter one.

the psychoactive is posible to DESTILATE, the bitter one is not.
SO, we put LOTS of FRESH wormwood in rakiya, vodka, whisky or other alcohol, we cover the Big Jar and we wait a month 4 examle.
Than we destilate all the stuff and the psichoactives (alcohol mixed with tujon) vaporizes and goes through the disilator, separeted from the non-psychoactive stuff(watter, plant matter and the bitter stuff)which stays in the lower part of the distilator .

drinking a tea of wormwood or eating the herb is a mazohistick and not very pleasent expirience without significant psichedelick effect.

i've been searching for a recipe for absinthe, though i have found many, i can't seem to find one that says it was the original, or one thats is even very old, living in the land of the repressed its hard to find any of the old teachings from my ansestors, for some reason making absinthe is still considered something like witch craft.

if their is a great recipe for absinthe in america the person that has it would still be burnt at the stake for sharing it...

The recipes for "absinthe" you find on the web are all bullshit. You won't get absinthe from soaking wormwood in alcohol. Real absinthe was made (and is being made again, thanks to changed laws in Europe) with various plant extractions and distillations. The process needs a skillfull distiller with professional distilling equipment plus he needs to know what he is doing.
The absinthes that are being made like this are delicious aperitifs which taste of anise and a whole bouquet of herbs.

If there are any effects from absinthe other than that of alcohol is up to you. In my personal opinion there are some other (very subtle) effects, but there are other herb-based alcoholic drinks which will also give you other effects than pure vodka.

If you want to drink real, distilled (exactly like before the ban in 1911) absinthe, you'll have to get your hands on some Jade Absinthe (re-developed absinthe by an absinthe historian and chemist from New Orleans).
In Germany, you can buy it online. It's pretty expensive, extremely delicious, but it won't make you trip. If you wanna trip, get some shrooms!

i can't see myself wanting to trip to much, but i do think i could make it reguardless of how hard it is to make, after all my family still runs and makes moonshine.

true.

BUT by destilating strong mix of wormwood and strong vodka you can gett much better drink than vodka.

Even with a homemade destilator the stuff in the end is about 70% alk, with yelow colour, very nice smell and no bitter taste at all.
Mix this stuff with equal amount of cold watter and a spoon of sugar or honey
and you'll get the famous misty consistence of a moonstone(if there's anason instead or together with of wormwood the consistence is more "clowdy" and "milky", but the taste is too funny for me and the feeling is not the same.), and if you drink about 2 X 25 gr. of it makes youn feel the musick , the colours and the time different , and probably you'll wanna dance.

the feeling is more "uplifting" , not "stoned"( if you don't drink too much)

aktualy its the only kind of alcohol I still use ocasionaly.

p.s. There was many different recepies for absenth in diferent places in Europe, in some regions in the south almost every different vilage has it's own secret recepie for the 'misty drink'.
I don't realy like the taste/aroma of anason, fenel and some other herbs, which esencial oils make the "clowdy" effect in the glas..
They are not so psychoactive like the tujon or not at all.

4 me only adding some fresh mint maybe is a good idea for the taste/aroma and colour to look more like the ancient absenth. the "high" of the destilated wormwood extract is good enough without anything else,
IF you use LOTS of FRESH "white"* wormwood and good 4 drinking strong alkohol.

* the "black" wormwood( the one with pointed leafs) grows taller but it is neither so bitter, neither so psychoactive.
Tujon is alsi present in the different kinds of sage,
but here sage is not so common plant like the wormwood, so I haven't tryied brewing "whichcraft" by it yet.

"lots" means abot a kilo of fresh herb on 5 liters of alkohol, using dryied herb
gives the taste, but not the specifick "high"

that sound a bit more promising, i'll try it that way, it's gotta be better than the batch my friend made, that tasted like tooth paste and ass.

Try to smoke one jix of wormwood, than another, the one with THC grass and after that another with woormwood. And if you are drunk to you are going to fell some kind of weard WARY WAERY HIGH!BE GOOD,ASK ME SOMETHING-my mail is here. 8) :D

That sounds pretty much like what I felt from absinthe. You can drink more than from other alcohol without getting tired and "stoned".
I have researched (only on a personal basis) absinthe pretty well. I have drunk everything from bad modern Czech "absinthe" to Swiss moonshine absinthe ("La Bleue") to even one sip of original French 1911 Berger Absinthe. I guess you won't believe the last one, but it's true. I got to know some guys on a forum, met them at the fete d'absinthe in Boveresse, Switzerland and one of them had a little sample of 1911 Berger Absinthe which he had aquired for quite some $$ from a guy who had found it in an old basement in France.
You know what? The old 1911 stuff was brown (from the aging) but it still louched (=went white) well with water and it still tasted really good.

What I learned during my personal research is that absinthe's special effects are not related to thujone levels. I have tried absinthes with definitely high thujone levels and they were worse in effects than other, distilled and well tasting absinthes with less thujone. The thujone theory is from the 19hundreds, a time when cocaine was believed to be a healthy cure against alcoholism... LOL
Whatever substance it is that makes absinthe a really nice drink, I don't know (but I could feel it again last new years eve when we had two or three or four of it, even it was only Serpis, which is one of the modern, not distillied but oil-mixed absinthes...)

btw. around the turn of the last century a lot of bad absinthe fakes were sold which contained highly poisonous copper compounds (to fake the milky "louche" effect). These were also a major reason for the ban of absinthe (along with the lobbying of the wine-producers who saw their profits melt away with absinthe becoming the most popular alcoholic drink...)
