There's a guy here in Oz that took some kind of trip quite a few years back, had no idea what it actually was, had never taken any kind of trips before, but is now locked up in a mental institution. He thinks he is a glass of orange juice! Every so often, this guy, who seems relatively normal a lot of the time, will be standing up straight one minute, then be bent over sideways at a 90 degree angle the next. Upon being asked what he is doing, he says "I'm too full, I have to tip some of the orange juice out..." This has been going on now for over 10 years!
The story of this guy is well known among people who use 'mind altering substances' here. I thought that it may have just been his particular metabolism, and his particular brain make-up, that did this to him. (I don't know if anyone else had used that type of trip, or if any of them had the same type of experience). Does anyone else have any ideas on this subject, or any other experiences to relate?

I know this guy who know this guy who knows this guy.

It's BULLSHIT, a story to make people believe that tripping can fuck you up in such a way that you cannot function like a(n) (ab)normal human being anymore. Tripping can trigger psychoses or some form of lunacy, but it is *VERY* unlikely that one turns into a glass of OJ.

Maybe you should question those people who tell this story. Try to find this guy/urban myth in his mental hospital and see if what they tell about him is true.

It is not true . There was a question on this subject a few weeks ago on the MAPS forum where someone said that he had done some research and could not find any evidence of anyone anywhere ever having lasting damage from taking a trip , he asked the other members if anyone knew of any cases of lasting damage and up till now nobody has come up with any . I think that before people start spreading infantile shit like this they should check it out . Wich person , where , when , where is the evidence , where does the unformation come from . Dont you think that if storys like this were true that the governments of the world would be rubing it in our faces ? It would be on the TV and in news papers all around the world . Things like this are dangerous to our comunity , there are people out there stupid enough to believe such crap .

Yeah, it's got 'urban myth' stamped all over it.

Psychedelics don't do these things to people.

They are extremely powerful 'conditioning detergents' which can wash away decades of brainwashing and propaganda.

Total nonsense !...

...everyone knows it was applejuice

Absolute bullcrap.

Urban myth.

apperently this is bullshit,

But there's a friend who knows a kid who got HPPD from taking mushrooms: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallucinog ... n_disorder

But apperantly this guy should have never taken mushrooms because he cant accepts the possible aftereffects..He is one of the hardest fighters to ban mushrooms.
Look at the "anti-paddo" hyves :P

Anyway, after seeing the symptoms of HPPD, it seems like i have it too :p But anyway, i can live with it then

grttz

this story is BS, i agree...

but...
i do know people (personally) that are obsessed with their trips.
they try to solve the puzzle and freak out...

imho, that's some kind of lasting damage.

The Anti-Paddo hyves is a laugh
It mostly consists of people who have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.
It's a good thing there are people who post some sensitive shit, but I swear, I'll take on any of those anti-people for a discussion

yes. I read the article too, and I have to say that many things apply to me. especially the afterpictures, sometimes I have trails and things in the corner of my eye seem to morph or move sometimes.. but I got them many months after my last trip. or at least I became aware of that months after.
daytripper once wrote that he is experiencing such things too. maybe we (or I, sometime..) should open a topic for it.

yes, misery, i experience some of those symptoms. black dots in the corner of the eye seem to move, and sometimes is confusing, because i have to be pretty aware of my surroundings on my job and always be on control of the situation. i see also many trails, specially when driving at night, or with little light. but i can live with it, our brain is a fantastic thing that can learn to interpret the stimuli that gathers from reality and turn it into usable information. i never get confused while driving, although i sometimes see trails (not always!). but the trails you see on acid are much more intense. i remember smoking a cigarrette while under the influence of lsd in a dark room, and just by moving my hand i would get trails that seemed like mindastronaut's pictures (in the "your creative work" section, pg.19). now, i have smaller trails, even though many of them differ in size. even bigger ones are different. for example:

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

this is a trail under lsd

O o o o o o o o o o o oooo

this is the sporadic trail that i get at night.
not the best explanation, but i think it passes the idea.

I have HPPD, but not to the extent you're describing, I guess it's because I never tripped really hard yet. But I do see textures waving very often

oh, yes. i forgot to talk about that. when i sometimes look to an object for 5 or 7 seconds, i see it slowly breathing, changing his shape a little. when this happens, i get this feeling of continuity that is hard to describle. like time stopped, and we are living in an eternal moment.

edit: and many times i see halos after i stare at things. just don't overthink things, i have get used to this and it doesn't matter anymore. it was just part of the lesson.

HPPD is an EXTREMELY rare condition. Seeing textures move is perfectly normal. Sight is a subjective thing. If you're in bed and you see yellow shapes moving with your eyes closed, it's all your imagination and because you're entering other states of conciousness. Trails are also common, we have just experienced full-blown psychedelic trails, so we know what they are in a psychedelic point of view. So we can give it a name.

HPPD basically only occurs when one takes huge amounts of a psychedelic drug, usually the person has a frightening life changing trip and is sensitive to the drug. The second option is one has abused a psychedelic drug. HPPD virtually always goes with dissociative thinking, fear disorder and depression. If you fit the criteria, you might have HPPD. If not, you're not having HPPD and it's just placebo/imaginary thinking.

Sorry if I sound harsh, but HPPD is so rare, I find it hard to believe so many people claim to suffer from it.

devxavier, i've had a full-blown psychedelic experience with lsd on easter sunday of the current year (2007). the only thing that comes close to i've experienced are the trip reports of large doses of dmt. i had such an ego-loss that i felt time stop to a complete halt, heard my heart stop and existed as everything that is, was or will be, in a impossible-to-measure space, time meant nothing, and i felt such a comfort, such a bliss and such love...such nothingness and "everythingness". i was reborn. but before this happened (or after, i'm not sure), i experienced extreme fear and despair. i did not knew how i was called, what was my profession, nothing. i only recalled loving a woman and i missed her. but i did not knew how she was called, where i lived...
since that day, i have been grown obcessed with the trip. i did not came to this forum for some months, and decided to stop thinking about psychedelics. when i thought i had solved the trip, i begun participating again, with a completely new look on psychedelics and not really in the mood to have such a powerful experience again. i have learned meditation and i can say i have reached similar stages, although not with the same intensity. i think this might fulfill the criteria of
when one takes huge amounts of a psychedelic drug, usually the person has a frightening life changing trip and is sensitive to the drug.

i also think i am extremely sensitive to lsd, because i only took one blotter (my first time with it). i talked to a guy that took 3 from the same batch, and the effects he told me were more or less the same that i've had, although a little smaller (he did not sensed the completeness i've told).

edit: and i am sure that some of those symptoms are placebo, creations of my mind due to overthinking. and perhaps i've became alerted to them, and they always been there. i don't pay much attention to them.

Like you say here, when you concentrate on something for a while, it starts breathing. Everybody can trigger that experience. HPPD doesn't come in waves, it's a constant state of mind. I just tried it with a cup on the coffee table and it started breathing after a while.

I am not saying you do not have HPPD, I just sincerely doubt it.

By the way, I am not making all of this up, one of my best friends is a psychiatrist and he knows quite a lot about HPPD.
