in any case, my point was that we can look at the big bang in many more ways than just ´ok the universe was all in a singularity, suddenly it appeared by chance and thats it, its all explained, you can all go back home ppl´

fundamental questions that perhaps the scientific method just isn't capable of approaching, anymore than a flatlander is capable of building a device that sees in three dimensions :D

even if the hypothesis about the universe expanding and contracting in an endelss cycle is true.. or the hypothesis about the universe being born out of the fabric of other universes is true..

it still doesn't answer the ultimate why :D

(of course, neither does a deity, it just adds another layer to the question a.k.a 'where did the deity come from?')

yes you are right. I think anybody who considers to have the whole map is very mistaken.. the mysterious quality of existence will always surpass any explanation.. like that saying,´the bigger the island of knowledge, the larger the coast of doubt´

I guess what im doing here is looking at science as a very specific interesting type of map, and try to find connections between it and our subjective ´spiritual´ experiences, making suppositions and basically exploring this territory and how it can be applied to daily life

I think it´s a whole different attitude to everything once one stops trying to find ´comfort´ in explanations such as big bang or any creation myth, starts seeing them as provisory, and just gets marvelled each single day at existence. This way, I feel we can openly finding correlates between the different models without prejudice (such as legitimizing the scientific speech but disconsidering other sources of knowledge), getting the best of everything

btw did anybody ever read Asimov´s story ´the last question´ ?

that's sort of how i try to view science too i guess. as just an explanation or model that seems to fit what we know at the present moment, which is always changing. and i think it has only deepened my appreciation for the beauty and mystery of existence and being alive..

I haven't read that story, but since I'm a huge, huge Asimov fan I will look it up, thanks :D

Whats special about Helium 3 and have you seen the reports/ TV programms about "cold" fusion ?

fusion reactors work. at the moment the fuel is hydrogen but when you fuse two isotopes of hydrogen- Deuterium and Tritium. this works and you get a huge amount of energy in the form of heat which can be used to generate steam to drive a turbine. unfortunately you also get a huge number of protons being released which totaly destroy the lining of the reactor in about 2 weeks.
if you fuse He3 you get no neutrons and can run your reactor in theory indefinately, or at least for long enough to make it economicaly practical.
the moon surface has high levels of He3 from solar winds. the only source on earth is from old plutonium bombs

And, as I understand, you can't have a meltdown--if there isn't enough heat drive the reaction, it will simply stop.

hehe, i hope so.

btw druglessdouglas, I have a question for you.. do you have any idea if the ´superstrings´ theory talks about octaves? I mean, do the patterns of the strings vibrating also obey musical octave scales?

ive no idea. ill look into it. in fact ill ask my physics specialist friend. hes got an interest in that sort of thing

i guess they somehow figured out how to separate single elecetrons which "belong together" (or at least were supposed to belong together) so they have also a connection in the spin qualities and the reason why they would be "entangled" would be because a force field bigger than the earth connects them and lets us observe the entanglement-phenomena ???

who knows really ???
