Hi there meneer i noticed u use rye, i can't seem to find it anywere here in portugal, and people tend to dont have a clue of what the f*** rye is, could you please take a picture of the label on the rye and send it to my email ?! [email:256b0csn][email protected][/email:256b0csn] ?!

Hey original,
If you cant get the exact same rye then don't worry

. It is possible to use nearly anything as a substrate for growing shrooms like straw, compost, woodchips, birdseed popcorn, bown rice. Just have a look on any of the shroom sites around and you will find guides to growing with all of the different types. The PF tek is meant to be the easiest for beginners so why not try that first. I just started last week and i found it really easy to do and already i have got some mycelial growth in my jars

Im sure you can find all that stuff where you live and can be growing in no time

One last question for now. Could i use rye flour, instead of the rye grain?? Or would the flour be too hard to shake up??

Hey Dan_kNugs,
I dont think it would work by itself because it would just stick together when you added water to it. The substrate needs to have air spaces where the mycelium can grow into. Maybe if you mixed the flour with some vermiculite it would work

I'm interested to see how you get along if you start to grow shrroms because I am just a newbie at this myself and interested to see how others find home growing. So keep us posted if you make a start

I buy my rye at a windmill. So no produktbags. Just a brown paperbag without any indication on it.

Some other stuff you can use is corn.

Or Brown rice floor mixed with vermiculite.

Rye grain is the word. It is a grain species which is very rich in nutrients.

Birdseeds and millit are very nice to work with to.

I use rye grains because I life in Holland

I've already done cakes, but now I want to go for casings. I haven't been able to find any rye around here, only rye flour, but i'll keep searchin'.

well i now had the bright ideia of trying to translate rye to portuguese and i found out that its like wheat, it so f***ing common... damn what a stupid confusion i made!!

i make my jars with vermiculite and rye flour, it works nice. First mix the vermiculite with the water then mix it with the rye flour, there is not enough water for the flour to stick together.

Hey Dan,
I am planning on casing the popcorn which i have incubating at the moment. Popcorn is really really easy to get hold of and easy to use.
All i did was to soak the unpopped kernals in water overnight then i put them in a pan with plenty of water and brought them up to the boil and then let them simmer for about 1 hour or maybe a bit longer. You want to try to avoid letting the kernals split cos this can fuck things up during incubation. I then just did the usual processes of sterilisation and inoculation.
The popcorn jars which i inoculated at the same time as the vermiculite and brf are actually colonising much faster. It is coming up to day 11 and they are about half way done whereas the others are only about 25% done.

It's just plain popcorn before it has been popped no vermiculite or anything else. Really easy

It's gonna be a while before i start casing them cos i have just got a new job miles from where i live so i dont have much free time.
Im planning on birthing and casing around the 29th so i will let you know how things go.
I will try to take some piccies too, i dont have a digital camera so im gonna have to get them developed outside somewhere which kinda worries me. But hopefully there will be no prblems.

Hey guys! I just sampled my first batch of mushrooms! All I can say is Azarius RULES!! hahaha

Actually tonight I tried about 1 gram. Just to make sure they work before I have a little "Testing party" hahaha... I felt great.. There was some visual effects... I'm very pleased..

Now I have a little question. My friend tells me that you should wait a few weeks before trying them again. Is that true? If I wanted to trip again soon would that be possible or do I have to wait awhile? I know that you have to wait about 2 weeks before you take esctacy because the serotonin levels need to replinish but how does shroom work??/

It's a lot more magical if you don't do them close together, it is possible though if you wish. Just make sure you're in the right mood.

Here is a picture of the shrooms I harvested today.

My last harvest was last week. I yeilded 30 grams dried. Is that typical of what you guys get?

My first batch wasn't very pretty so I didin't take a picture. I harvested them too late and they turned black. I was hoping that if I let them grow longer, they would get bigger.

Unfortunatly there are no more shrooms gowing on the top. They are all comming up from the sides of the kit.

You also asked about what the yield was at other places.
My casings tend toproduce around the 100grams wet at flush number 1. And about 80 at flush number two.

But sometimes I harvest less.

The fact that the shrooms are growing from the sides is due to a to low humidity. At thoseplace humidity is higher.
WHen the grow kit is with or transparant it is most likely that shrooms start growing on sdes and bottom aslight starts pinning at the lighted survaces.

The best casing are non-transparant
