Hi there, :)

I have 6 plants growing from seeds, they are one week on their way, but I start to wonder if 6 is enough, cause if they all turn out to be male, I'm pretty much screwed.

This is the first time I start growing from seeds, before I used clones.

Is there a possibility they all turn out male?
Or is this rather rare, I use High Quality seeds - Northern Light.

The temperature ranges from 28 to 32 degrees, wich is much, but I'm growing under 600Watt, so can't do much about it I guess.

Thx! :)

I'm no pro but I'm pretty sure that if you have them all growing in the same pot, and one is male it will influence the rest to become male as well. So as soon as you establish the gender you want to move the male plants out.

Once again, I'm no pro and could be wrong.

Usually half will become male, the other female. Once I had 4 females out of 5 seeds, my friend got zero from 5 seeds. It's all about luck ;)

I never heard plants become male because they are together with another male plant in a pot. However, it's a good idea to not plant them together at all so you avoid entangling of the roots when you need to repot.

I thought that to much heat isn't good for the evoluting plants and could influence them to become male.

But I have 'em all growing in different pots, 6 now, and one is still coming out, so I'll put it with them when it starts to grow. :)

Just a little side-question. :)
- Can I take clones from them when they are 3 weeks old, or do I need to waith 2 months (wich is recomended for good motherplant clones) before cloning them, or doesn't it actually make much difference anyway?

As noted above, usually ~50-50 M/F...heat falls under the category of 'stress'...at this point,(3 weeks) as long as they're moist and well lit you should be ok. BUT, I have noticed starting seeds is harder in mid-summer. Possibly because of heat.

I'd advise you to wait until you have four internodes, take clones, switch your lights to 12/12 to force them to show you who is who, then, revert to whatever veg. light cycle until you feel they are big enough

Generally, a cannabis neighbourhood will determine sex on equilibrium; they will sure up the numbers of males if there is a shortage of them and will do the same for females, yet less profusely for the latter.
They can sometimes change sex during the vegetative stage, and of course, some turn out to be hermaphrodites. Also, soil PH and different ratios of nutrients can cause a sex change, higher generally results in males.

More heat isn’t a worry when they have become established enough to hold there own, and doesn’t influence the sex to my knowledge. A bit of stress is always welcome in the form of heat because it forces the plant to increase in potency and trichome distribution to help prevent dehydration, also dryer climates induce smaller and thinner leaves.

Good luck mate.

Peace.

From what i have read you need to have 16 plants to be nearly 100% sure that at least 1 is a female . Thats why often when you buy seeds they come in bags of 10 - 16 seeds .

Its better to wait till they are 2 months old before making clones .

I´m not a fan of changing to a 12/12 cycle and back again to determin sex , if you arent blind and with a bit of experience you will see early enough wich are men and wich are women . Men are long and thin and women are more compact and have more branches . And if you take a magnifying glass and keep looking in their arm pits every day you will be able to see little pre-flowers before the real flowers develop so you will know wich is wich .

Well, thanks again for the great advice. :)

Another question have just popped up... :)

Is it worth it to grow just one or two plants under a 600watt lamp, or is it better to start all over again if that turns out to be the case.
My goal is at least 100 gram, dried, at least ofcoarse, otherwise it's a waste of time, cause time in this case is money, cause I'll need to buy my stuff instead of growing it myself, and prices are pretty high these days. :(

Under a 600 watt HPS lamp you can put more than two plants , start with 16 - 20 plants untill you know their sex and then from them try six female plants and keep them small by cutting out the growing tips ocaisionaly so that they branch and grow two more tips from every place that you have cut one out . If you read some of the books i have refered to in the "Free books" thread in the Market part of the forum it will give you a good idea of what you need to do and how to do it . You should get MUCH more than 100 gramms by using a 600 watt lamp .

try to grow a hermaphrodite and make it pollinate itself (herself? himself? naaah)
if i'm not mistaking this gives you feminised seeds for the year after.

I`m not a fan of hermaphroidites , they self polinate before the buds as big enough to get a good harvest and as far as i know they produce hermaphrodites = pass on their traits to the seeds that they produce , and breeding hermaphrodites quickly leads to degeneration . I always learnt to kill them as soon as i saw them . I`m also not a fan of female / feminised seeds because then you are stuck with the quality that they are and always have to buy more = the people that sell them have controle of you as if you are a junkie . I think that to maintain and improve potency one has to breed .

Yeah, GOD, I was always an outdoor grower myself. I knew these guys who were doing the indoor thing when I was into my thing back in the 90's, and they were the ones who I first saw doing all that cloning and forcing, etc.
With the strains I saw them using, such as HIndu Kush and Skunk #1, it didn't seem like the plants really cared when they were manipulated so harshly, maybe that shit actually was well bred, as it was quite hardy. They used all clones, too, so I am pretty sure what I saw, even though I wasn't aware of it at the time, was representative of the fastest growing, healthiest plants. They had a hindu kush clone that tasted like cotton candy, and each clone was yielding about 80 grams, one solid bud.

My own experiences with any seeds I came by on my own,
were usually, with a few exceptions, less successful.
These were dutch seeds, from hemcy/ubino, and they really were troopers. The sk #1's were in an attic where the ac crapped out and they were in flower. Temps were up over 100 F for about a week and the water pumps quit too and they still made it.

If I can find seed like that I would be really happy.
