oka first of all poppies dislike transplanting THEY REALLY DONT LIKE IT!! and the paper towl would be a bad idea since the roots of P. Som. are very delicate and hairy and they would stick to it when pulled off and probly would die........your best bet is to plant them directly into the soil or a potter and keep moist.. soil temp should be around 50 - 60 deg. F. .......they will germ. in about a week or less {if proper soil mix is used}.i just use sand mixed with good black soil from nearbye river and peat moss....they like well drained soil.......and after that little care is needed will flower in about 30-50 days.....so this means you can harvest inside 3 times a year!! yay!!! and my poppies get about 7 hrs of light a day and they are doing WONDERFULL just about 10 more days to bloom!!
Use shovel and little dig and replace earth. You know what I mean, and than throw seeds. Water them every day for 15 days. You will see sprouts growing. Why to water them- water is essential at the beginning and this is reason why poppies are planted in spring or young autumn. And one question, are you trying this to make opium-morphine-heroine or you just like to drink poppy tea( this is very poisonous) or maybe wonder the look of poppy field that you have made?
yeh OR>>>> you can just plant them in a good size pot ......inside....just keep them in a cool dark room untill they "hatch" then move them to light..
the best way to sow them in a pot is to mix them with sand.....and make sure the pot is deep enough..................
I just threw a bunch of seeds in the garden when i saw the field poppies open and this year i got a poppy infestation at the beginning of spring...but the methot given by Alkoloidian is fine too it works and keeps the population under control.
