Is DMT produced in pineal gland?

We intake the essential amino acid L-tryptophan through diet. Light photons enter through our pupils and stimulate rods and cones in the back of our eyes, an area called the retina as well as the top of our head, and other thin skinned areas of the body. The energy from light photons is converted to electrical and chemical impulses, which are relayed through a small bundle of nerves, called the optic tract, to the hypothalamus. Information from the hypothalamus is in turn relayed through several other nerve tracts to the pineal gland. (Aronson, 1993) In the pineal gland, tryptophan is converted to serotonin or 5- hydroxy-tryptamine by 5hydroxylation and decarboxylation. Serotonin is used as our predominate daily-waking neurotransmitter. An acetyl group is added to serotonin by an enzyme called serotonin-N-acetyl-transferase (NAT). NAT is believed to be the rate-limiting enzyme, that is, the amount of melatonin produced depends on the activity of this enzyme. Activation of NAT depends not only on signals induced by light hitting the retina, but also from information relayed from other parts of the brain. Adding a methyl group, leading to melatonin follows the acetylation of serotonin. Throughout daylight hours, light reaching the pineal gland prevents the production of melatonin. Even very low intensity light as from an indoor fluorescent light may prevent melatonin release (Laakso, 1993). Light signals reaching the pineal inhibit the activity of the enzyme that converts serotonin to melatonin. Darkness allows melatonin production. Starting in the evening, and throughout the night, the pineal gland releases melatonin, reaching peak levels between 2 and 4 am. In the morning, exposure to light shuts off melatonin production. The chemical name of melatonin is 5-methoxy-N-acetyl-tryptamine. When melatonin is metabolized in the pineal gland, it is converted to 5-methoxy-tryptamine (Hardeland, 1993). 5-methoxy-tryptamine is further metabolized to N, N-dimethyl-5-methoxy-tryptamine (5-MEO-DMT) and other tryptamines. Our brain manufactures its own hallucinogens, which lead us to dream.

Please can you explain exactly what you want to say .

sorry

please erase the double messages

and my computerskills even worse

Melatonin => DMT????

Melatonin is catabolised to N-acetyl-N-methoxykynurenamine by an unknown enzyme.

pffff i dont know melatonin is sleephormon
dimethyltryptamine is something else *(dreamhormon)
smoking marihuana is more melatonin
so if you smoke often marihuana, you get so much melatonin you stay in the sleepfrequency, with very less dreams
with much melatonin not all melatonin can breakdown to dreamhormon
so less dreams with much marihuana

Again Descartes... Descartes carried the belief that the Pineal gland was the organ in the brain that allowed the Mental and Physical realms to interexchange. He also believed that the physical realm is just an extension of the mental realm. I've read The spirit molecule and dont believe he really mentioned him too much? Don't really remember read it a while ago.

His argument is ridiculous though. Basically what he says is because the pineal gland is the only part of the brain that's not present in both sides but exactly in the middle it must mediate between the soul and the body.

Well, I dunno where you got this idea from, but it's sooo not true!
Everyday, every single day I dream, everyone does, but I mean I have really vivid dreams, allways in the morning I start to dream, pretty lucid too, not completely lucid in the way of being capable of completely directing my dreams, but still lucid enough to have some kind of control over it.And that is every single day.

I even asked my doctor if there's no cure/medication against having intense dreams, cause it draws energy, and I allways feel trashed in the morning because of those dreams, it's a real problem sometimes. It can also be fun though.

And I smoke cannabis every single day, so either this theory is false, or I would dream even more without cannabis.(impossible ofcoarse). :)

Some people, regular cannabis users, tell me that they only have dreams when they have'nt smoked weed the day before, and never dream when they smoke, so maybe it's true for some people, but certainly not for me! :)

When I smoked weed daily I had no dream at all. I had to abstain from smoking any for at least 2 weeks before I started dreaming again.

We have a 5 page thread about this on the dutch part of the forum, but there where plenty people who did not dream when they had smoked cannabis for a while, including me.

I also have to wait for at least 2 weeks, but then i starting to have really intense dreams for at least 2 or 3 weeks. After that period these intense dreams starting to decrease.

I don't think we can say anything conclusively about the relationship between cannabinoids, dreaming, DMT and the pineal gland. I don't think the pineal gland really deserves to be called the "third eye". The DMT flash is experienced by the entire nervous system.

Sometimes after having smoked cannabis I felt a little tryptamine-like effet that never lasted more that 5 minutes. Mild hallucinations, colours changing, shapes deformations, numbing auditory hallucinations. Possibly DMT ?
It rarely happens but it's quite pleasant, there are smilarities with mushrooms and LSA. Possibly flashbacks !

I wonder why I dream that much then, today again!
I had a whole series of different dreams, it really draws my energy, maybe I have to quit for 2 weeks before I stop dreaming then. :?

I seem to know when I'm going to dream, and have been studying my mind set before going to bed when waking up and having dreams.

To get a dream 100% of the time, I can start painting a picture in my mind, of a landscape, and start a story... it usually just progresses without any thought, like a dream does, and I find myself waking up, and realizing I had a dream...
It's cool. Try it, experiment with what makes you dream...

Hey man, that sounds very interesting!

I can't fall asleep very easily, allways when I get in bed I start to process a whole lot of random thoughts, like my mind suddenly get's kickstarted to think about thing's I need to do or something.

But I have a trick to fall asleep easier, instead of thinking about real things, I start to fantasize, for example that I go outside and start to fly around, I allways fantasize something, this way I can fall asleep.Just like you paint a picture in your mind, and fantasize a landscape.

So, now I read that you do the same thing to wake up dreaming!
It's really great!Maybe some people should experiment to see how it works out for them!
Fantasizing things before they fall asleep = waking up dreaming?

It has been answered if the Pineal produces DMT. Dr. Strassmans work makes it seem that way, but I haven't read any solid proof. Maybe he has I did just start the book after all.

No it hasnt and no it doesnt .

Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), also known as N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a naturally-occurring tryptamine and potent psychedelic drug, found not only in many plants, but also in trace amounts in the human body where its natural function is undetermined. Structurally, it is analogous to the neurotransmitter serotonin and other psychedelic tryptamines such as 5-MeO-DMT and 4-HO-DMT. DMT is created in small amounts by the human body during normal metabolism[1] by the enzyme tryptamine-N-methyltransferase.

Barker SA, Monti JA and Christian ST (1981). N,N-Dimethyltryptamine: An endogenous hallucinogen. In International Review of Neurobiology, vol 22, pp. 83-110; Academic Press, Inc.

To me it is highly unlikely that such research was not pushed to completion ! I smell coverups !!!

What was the point of your last post ? The body does make and contain DMT but its not proved that its made in the pineal gland .

I know...

My point is that it's just there and nothing proves it's not made in the pineal gland !
