I think I am coming to the conclusion that individualism has to be the answer. Not necessarilly isolationism, but more of a 'my home is my kingdom' where everything necessary to survive, and thrive, is HERE, now....if 'corporations' are the problem, then individuals must be the fix.....there are a couple of real problems I have with the modern concept of a 'corporation', probably the main issue with them is their complete lack of transparency pertaining to their ownership, goals, etc...but also, the fact that they are endowed with the 'rights' that a person supposedly has. We all know that the corporations have more rights than a person now.

The only real power any consumer has over people selling inferior products is the boycott. A boycott only is really effective at sending a message when enough people agree on the message and the methodology.


This gives it a 'consensual reality' that is on par with the present 'consensual reality' of 'people are powerless drones subject to the whims of industry'

in other words, its all in our heads, and it will change *when enough of us want it to*

I agree with what the OP is saying to some extent. We are controlled to quite a large degree, however we still do have freedom and freedom of choice.

The way I see it, is that people who are drones, are people who are either too stupid, narrow minded, or are just happy being sheep. The fact that a lot of people follow trends and comply with what a higher authority orders them to do, is not something to ridicule or hate, simply because many people enjoy not having to think for themselves.

As long as you and I have the freedom to speak about how we feel, dress how we want and live how we want (without causing harm to others) then i'd say you have a good quality of life, and a good deal of freedom.

It's easy to feel oppressed when you watch TV, see advertisements, care about what other people may think, but the truth is, that oppression - while it does exist - will only take hold of you if you allow it to.

If you have the intelligence and confidence to think for yourself, then you'll never be sucked into it. unfortunately though, nature in itself, makes most of us willing to be led by people with more intelligence without ever questioning why.

When they succeed in selling a shitload of stuff we may (or may not) actually need (but let's keep in mind that corporations offer has to adjust to the public demand, in the end, the choice belong to the consumer) well that makes employement and stuff, not only the people behind those corporation profit it (but they do way more then the others though) and beside, they're people too, just like us (except way richer), they are as submitted to the system than we are. Except for american Bankers, those guys are bitches.
What I mean, is that it is somehow useless to reject the system, we'd be better enjoying what we can about it while staying true to ourselves.

I'd say individualism and community must be realized as equally important. Each individual is as important as the whole, and distinguishable from the rest. . . There is a very underlying theme to politics:
Those who want to be alone,
And those who want to congregate together.

Both perspectives are equally valid, but delving only into one, I'm not so sure is a good idea.

"Specialization is for insects" -> Be well rounded, know how to do everything to survive, etc.
Yet, isolating yourself from those who have strengths and new insights - well you just don't get anywhere do you!
