Good places to emigrate to

It will still be a while, but I have seriously began to think of getting out. I want to take advantage of the wealth of nationalities at this board to ask some of you your opinions as to where would be a good place to go.
I liked Canada, a lot, but BC was all underground when I was there. Everyone I met was either a smuggler, a dope grower, or an underground chemist, and sometimes all three.

I d' like to go somewhere where I could just fade into the scenery and forget all this mess. Of course I'd love to check out amsterdam, but I've heard its hard to move there.

My appearance does not broadcast 'american'...i tend more to dark in skin and hair. My english is unaccented.

I have multiple trades and skills as well as a lot of science background, so making a living isnt a problem if theres any kind of economy.

I'm not real picky about what I do either, as long as it doesnt involve contributing to this crap I am trying to find my way out of.

Then, if you like cannabis, come to Quebec, in Canada! We have the best weed in the world! 8)

But you will have to learn french... But I promise it's a very nice place for living (except if you don't like snow).

Also, shrooms and LSD are hard to find here (more LSD than shrooms, with shrooms you just have to know the right people, which can be hard sometimes. Haven't found real LSD yet.)

If you move to Quebec, bring me a vial of LSD, I swear I'll buy it

come to portugal. we are welcoming, have great food and the people are very peaceful (perhaps too much). countryside, big cities, small towns, very remote areas, dry weather, humid, you name it. it has everything of everyone's taste. i have visited most of europe, and this is my favourite place. just, as any place, stay out of problems and no problems are going after you.

Well, I researched it really thoroughly the last time, as I was seriously leaving then, and I discovered that it would be VERY difficult to legally immigrate to Canada. That being said, in your opinion, are there many Americans up there illegally, and are they able to make it ?

When you work legally there, what is their (your) equivalent of a social security card? In other words, is there a way they keep track of you?

One would expect that there is, but hope that there isn't.
I havent used my social security card in many years, and why should I ? It only makes it easy for them to track me.

first i'd advise you is not to go to amsterdam before you speak dutch fluently, you'll get eaten alive by people not liking "stupid american tourists". If you're interested in holland I'd say don't pick den haag/rotterdam/amsterdam, for an american to find your way in holland i'd start either near one of the smaller cities like utrecht or nijmegen maybe so you get a slightly easier atmosphere. Moving to a small town would be hard i think because usually people in small towns tend to be somewhat tighter knit communities and they won't have as much interest in foreigners. All in all I'd advise you to go to a medium city (to dutch standards) if you'd want to come here.

Well I'm not sure of what is that "Social security card" you're talking about. Maybe it's what we call social number here, which is written on a card? Here this is used only when you are trying to get a job, employers always ask your number. I don't know if there are many illegal immigrants from the USA though...

And why would it be difficult for you to legally immigrate to Canada? Is it because of when you got busted for MJ and MDMA? I know that if you have a "casier judiciaire" (don't know how to say it in english) in Canada, which flags you as a criminal, you can't enter the USA anymore, is it the same to get out? oO

In europe the best places for you to live would be Holland , Portugal , England or Germany . But you need an adress and a job to be able to stay here for a long time . In those countrys there are a lot of drugs and the people are usualy friendly and laid back . In holland as was said in the big citys you would just go under unless you have a group of friends . Americans havent got good cards in big citys there , most people think that they are just big headed , big mouthed thickys and drug tourists . In Amsterdam you often hear people say the only thing wrong with Amsterdam is the Americans , even from scene people . Holland can be socialy very cold , its a small country and allthough one of the main sources of money is tourism so is one of the main causes of problems . Europe is a realy cool place if you have a base = money , friends and a place to live . But surviving in europe without those things is extremely hard . Having a criminal record isnt realy a problem anywhere , you either dont tell anyone or play it down = lie a bit . Once you have a job and a place to live the big things are language and lonliness . So in that respect Holland , Germany and England are better than Portugal as all Duch , German and most English people can speak English and there is allways a club or bar open somewhere to combat the lonliness . Just dont jump before you have somewhere to land , even if you have a lot of money it is gone very quickly and then you are in big shit . The idea of coming over as a tourist and believing that you will find somewhere to live and a job is an ilusion . You have to be clear in your head , if you leave your country for a long time you become a sort of non person , you dont realy belong anywhere , wich is realy strange . You have to have a very thick skin and be carefull or you have a good chance of loosing big . Finding someone who will give you a room for say 6 months and living of your savings untill you can find a legal source of income is your best bet . Imagine what it would be like to move from where you live to New York , with just the things that you can carry . And it gets a real pain in the arse carrying all your things from one cheap hotel or "friend" to the next , spending a few days here and a few days there . I know i was homeless in europe from 1981 untill 1998 and in the last few years things have got harder and the authoritys are all linked through the internet now , so its impossible to lie to the one without the others knowing ......... Guess whos war on terror was responsible for that ??? If you dont find someone here to put you up in Holland and you are ever in the city i live in in north Germany i would give you a 20 qm. room for 6 months or so and help you with every thing that i can , but i dont want to live with someone for years . Its not much different here than in Holland . It would be a totaly empty room that i use as my store room at the moment , i dont own anything besides a TV , a few books , a computer , my bed , my strat and a few other things . So its a bit like camping indoors in my apartment , sort of a mad max end time scenario . But i know the ropes so to speak , and i know a few people , the ones that a person like you needs to know to survive . Just send me a PM if you need me and i`ll help you , but please dont say anything other than thanks for the offer here please if you feel like saying anything at all . Maybe when a few people in Holland read this offer they will hopefully start volunteering , = i hope it gets your ball rolling so to speak .

As far as social security cards goes its the same everywhere in Europe , we have free movement and you can live and work where you want . Its also easy to dissapear once you have got the papers you need to stay = once you are here , have a first adress and a job you can easily move around and dont have any real trouble . We aint in the fucking US of A !!!! So big brother isnt interested unless you make big waves .

I'm really thankful that I'm not living in the USA ...
It's not that there was no americanization in our politics (thanks to Schäuble and Platter), but it's not that bad.
I think you'd like it in Austria too, we got nature and stuff no seriously, the best thing is that you don't have to come up with your own health-insurance (as long as you are working). I don't think that I'd have gotten the therapies and surgeries I needed if I lived in the usa.. And I also think that the people here are not that prejudiced if it comes to americans, sure some are, but those are everywhere.
and I don't think it should be too hard for an american to emigrate to austria. we are changing emigration laws at the moment. to be honest, I don't know if that's positive for you, but I do believe that it is. at least for the poor people from the east it is.

I would suggest Vancouver (cause there's a lot of work there because of the Olympics and it is pretty laid back). Amsterdam can be okay, but it is hard if you don't know anyone (but you know me! ). There is a lot of work here, even for English speaking people. Just don't behave like a tourist (i.e. drink too much and do mushrooms and start yelling at everyone) and you'll be fine. Any other place in Europe outside of Great Brittain might be a bit harder. Immigration can be a problem, but if you have a degree and/or experience you're probably welcome.

Man if I were you I'd want to head somewhere tropical real laid back maybe costa rica or jamaica there are a couple countries in the carribean that would be a solid place to live in my opinion anyway somewhere where you can just lay out in a hammock smoking some home-grown grass and making a living either that or sri lanka my man sri lanka is beautiful i have some relatives there and most of my family's been down there to visit and whatnot

If you decided to go to Germany I'd recommend Berlin or Hamburg. I don't know Hamburg first hand, but I've heard a lot about it from friends who have been living there. They absolutely loved the city and were still unhappy their jobs had taken them somewhere else. They are both kind of our types by the way (one is an avid hobby-psytrance-dj)
I'm pretty sure I will be moving to Berlin as soon as an opportunity opens up. I have been there only twice, but I loved every moment of it. We went to a reggae party in Berlin and the smell of weed was so strong you got high from breathing. After dancing a little, a total stranger (Jamaican Rasta type) offered us a spliff (don't even think of it in southern Germany - in Stuttgart or Munich all you're offered by strangers is a fist in your face).
We also went to an after-hour techno party in Berlin on a monday night (yes, monday night!). There were hundreds of people there, 99% of them had been on speed since thursday night, they were all totally out of it (I guess "zombie" would be the right description), but peacefully emerged in dancing. Also the speed was extremely good
You shouldn't go to the wrong places in Berlin, but there are thousands of super-nice locations where the atmosphere is friendly and open-minded.

At all costs avoid Bavaria, it's a police state in comparison. Probably the only state in Germany where people don't dare to smoke weed at reggae parties...

The caribbean might be warm , but its also got loads of poor people who rob "rich" tourists and loonys on crack with guns . In Sri Lanka there is a WAR !!!! and BOMBS !!!!

Holland is much more laid back , and i agree with what Tryptonaut says about Berlin and Hamburg . I used to go out on thursday at 10 PM and come home at 1 PM on mondays . You have a legal right to be stoned in Germany so if you dont make a show about it you can get and take what you want and the police keep out of the way unless you are driving . I used to see it as my duty to make everywhere stink as much as possible of grass , and there are often ques to get into the toilets , with 3 - 4 - 5 - 6 in each cabine . In Hamburg things have slowed down a bit lately because of lack of venues for Psy-trance partys . But christmas to new year is always good . To have fun you need money though = 2 - 3 - 400 euros for a GOOD weekend with nasal and lung sex plus a handfull of E`s .

I suggest the south of Spain !!!!! We moved here about a year ago and love it here. You don't need much to get by, if you can work with your hands, you can easily survive.
We moved to escape from Holland, where life and the people are changing soon, partly due to a "bad" (my opinion) government who are giving the coffeeshops a hard time, wanting (or maybe they did it by now) to forbid the mushrooms etc.
