One of my buddies is doing an extraction using 2 separate 100g solutions of MHRB, lye and (purified) water. a few questions because he is too proud to ask for help on the internet. He used ~100g of powdered rootbark, ~100g of lye, and ~1750 ml of water, (prepowdered root bark takes more water). He followed http://www.erowid.org/plants/mimosa/mimosa_chemistry1.shtml this Tek. However, when he pulled the naptha off the top each time, the naptha was completely clear, no color whatsoever, then left in the freezer for going on 35 hours now. No crystals have formed. However, he had the jar CAPPED.
does he need to uncap the jar in the freezer? also, should the naptha have any color going into the freezer? and finally, does the fact that purified water was used make a difference?
the naptha was heated before putting it into the MHRB/NaOH/H20 solution, but the solution itself was not heated.
