A question for the experienced.
How does a brew or otherwise prepared cactus compare to a mescaline.hcl trip? Difference with varieties (peyote, pedro etc. , would guess so)? Due to other alkali contents or .. ?

A brew or cacti contains more plant materials which are hard to digest, so it's harder on the body and you have more unwanted side-effects.
If you have pure mescaline.hcl it's pretty stimulating but after a normal extraction you extract a mixture of alkaloids, one of them is a 'sleepy' one which adds a more dreamy, relaxing effect to the experience(after an extraction it's also relatively easy to separate this).
Never had peyote, but if I had I would do an extraction to. My first few times I had eaten peruvianus, later a brew, but now I just take one or two capusules and would never do otherwise, my favorite psychedelic but I never eat or drink that nasty hard stuff again.

So you'd just rate a pure mescaline trip as less of a hassle and overall better quality, no subtle differences in the experience that might make it interesting to try a brew or eat the stuff?

No didn't say that. The sleepy alkaloid makes the trip more dreamy which can add a relaxing/calming effect.

But if you do and extraction you should end up with the same mixed alkaloids as with drinking a brew/or eating cactus except for the large amount of dirty plant material which has no effect except for a hard digestion.

or actually you are right, I see no reason why one should eat or drink that stuff. But pure mescaline is different from a cactus extraction, except if you separate the sleepy alkaloids via filtration or recrystallization after gassing with HCl, the you have pretty much pure mescaline.

A lot depends on the cactus material and type of extraction.
Mescaline HCl is pretty much always the same regardless of cacti as you are only getting the Mescaline for the most part unless you use too strong a HCl solution and get brown sanchez.
Teas made from cactus are far more potent than extracted although there is a difference to the feel of the trip as there are more alkaloids other than mescaline that are being felt. My experience w/ P. Torch which doesn't have a whole lot other than mescaline in it was still more powerful and visual as a tea than HCl is. But HCl is easier to dose and is easier on those who have issues w/ nausea or discomfort.
Now to tea up some of the other Trichos, such as the bridgesii are far different as they have some natural MAOI properties that enhace/ potentiate the experience. Tea from these are supposed to be as close as one can get to the Peyote experience short of actually taking Peyote. One would want to do a wide spectrum extract from the bridgesii if at all as extracting mescaline from these types of cacti would be a waste of good stuff.
This is the main reason why many of us use the Torches for extraction purposes as they have a good percentage of mescaline and it extracts easily and comes back pretty clean if one follows the procedures correctly.

I prefer using dried cactus for all forms. Whether Tea or extracting. It's easiest to tell how much to use to make tea from as fresh cuttings can vary greatly in content whereas dried usually has a reliable content of alkaloids.
This is also what makes doing HCl so convenient. A decent scale and some gel-caps and one can go as far as one wants.

Hope some of that helps.

Very interesting all that !

There are things called phytonutrients; such as taking vitamin pills cannot stimulate exactly the same nutrition as eating raw vegetables, or extracting and digesting one portion of chemical nutrients from a plant, and then later, another.

They are synergistic effects, where taking the raw plants is more than the sum of all it's nutritional content. I would argue that eating/drinking raw cactus extract tea can have synergistic effects, both positive and negative.

These effects are small, however knowing about them, can put you in a different head space. I like raw, but I dislike naseau. I would definitely recommend trying both.

''Eating whole cactus produces a more body-oriented high than pure mescaline. San Pedro usually produces a very smooth, flowing experience. However, the effects of Peyote are quite different due to its unique mixture of alkaloids. With Peyote, the first couple hours of the experience are very dream-like, drifting, almost a delirium type state. '' - D. M. Turner

THE HIGH:
The mescaline experience is my favorite of the traditional psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, mescaline). I find it has the advantages of acid: a lucid, penetrating, focused ability of the mind, rather than the more dreamy, drifting state I get from mushrooms. However, I feel totally relaxed with mescaline, even calmer than I feel on mushrooms, and there's no trace of the metallic edge usually felt on acid.

Eating whole cactus produces a more body-oriented high than pure mescaline. San Pedro usually produces a very smooth, flowing experience. However, the effects of Peyote are quite different due to its unique mixture of alkaloids. With Peyote, the first couple hours of the experience are very dream-like, drifting, almost a delirium type state. During this time I feel groggy and sleepy and can do little more than lay back and sink into the feeling, which is not unpleasant. Some element of Peyote also acts as an emetic, making most people nauseous about two hours into the trip.

I find the mescaline experience to be more visual than mushrooms or acid. However, I've only experienced really spectacular visuals when using synthetic mescaline. My high tolerance to most psychedelics, along with the capacity of my stomach, has prevented me from ever being as high as I would have liked when eating whole cactus. Like psilocybin, mescaline tends to link me with collective evolutionary consciousness more than synthetics like LSD. The experiences produced by these natural psychedelics seem more "significant" than an acid high, which is more analytical. An acid high often seems to be a by-product of magnifying the mind, whereas with mushrooms and cactus one feels they are in touch with something ancient, spiritual, and personal. Mescaline has a unique signature in this context which I find most magical, a feeling that the Gods or protective allies are smiling down on me. The duration can be 6 to 14 hours depending on the amount consumed. The "coming back" portion of a mescaline trip is smoother than with the other traditional psychedelics. And I've never felt the "drained of energy" or "neural overload" feeling that can come after an intense acid trip. This allows for a more conscious and therapeutic return to regular consciousness, after which I can easily sink into sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.

Some aspects of the mescaline high are quite distinct from LSD or mushrooms. The visions produced by mescaline have a different character and structure. When being overtaken by a full strength mescaline trip, I've felt more than with any traditional psychedelic that I was an extraterrestrial being, immersing myself in new sensory phenomena for the first time. Where LSD or psilocybin heighten and clarify the sense of hearing, mescaline produces auditory hallucinations, heightening the hearing sense but also causing sounds to be quite different than normal. Mescaline also sharpens the olfactory sense to a much finer degree than LSD or psilocybin. I've particularly noted this in my ability to perceive the smells of numerous different plants when using synthetic mescaline outdoors. As for aphrodisiacal use of mescaline, wow!, it brought energies out of me that I never knew I had.

At the conclusion of this chapter is one of my favorite descriptions of a psychedelic experience. It illustrates the depth and spiritual significance that a mescaline experience can produce. This is a description of a Peyote experience which Bernard Roseman undertook with members of the Native American Church in the late l950s. It was published in The Peyote Story, Wilshire Book Company, 1963.
