Clandstine Lab Legality

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone know of any laws pertaining to clandestine labs. In other words, I'm wondering if it is legal to make a lab in your basement and make LEGAL chemicals. Anyone have any ideas?
On one hand I can't see how it would be illegal in my own home, but on the other hand I could see how you might need some sort of license.

Any responses would be great thanks guys.

I may be wrong, but I believe you'd need to acquire a license to do something like that. If not for running a laboratory, you most certainly need a chemist's license to posses a lot of the chemicals.

but couldn't find a definitive answer. You may want to take a look yourself in case I missed something (which I likely did).

you would most definitely need a license if you're operating with potentially hazardous chemicals

I think if you keep it on a hoby level , buy your chemicals legaly and dont make illegal things you are OK . You would have to inform your insurance company though .

I'm sure they'd LOVE that! Some how though I have the feeling that I would get my house raided either way. legal or not.
