First off, I think there should be a separate forum for non-entheogenic mind technologies/neurotechnologies such as psychoacoustics, binaural beats, mind machines, cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) devices, and the like. They too seem like a useful way to alter and study the mind, in conjunction with psychedelics or not. Don't get me wrong, I do think psychedelics/entheogens are still one of the best, or probably the best tools to explore and study the mind.....but these other methods shouldn't be overlooked.
A separate forum on meditation would be great too.
Anyways....to the topic.....which do you think is the most effective neurotechnologies/mind technologies out there? I've personally mainly dealt with binaural beats, which are quite useful especially when used with cannabis and other psychedelics. Mind machines and cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES) devices seem to be the best though. It would seem that to get CES devices you would need a prescription....and as far as I have read and seen CES devices seem like they might work better than mind machines. But this may not necessarily be the case. What are your experiences with mind machines? Are they as good as CESs devices in inducing a good altered state of consciousness or what?
Most mind machines I have seen are the strobe-light goggles with headphones, and I suppose they work quite well. Another type of mind machine.....though it's comparable to binaural beats for the eyes would be dreamachines which use stroboscopic flashing lights to produce visual stimuli. Supposedly how it works is that the lights induce a more alpha-theta wave pattern when eyes are closed similar to dreaming and thus inducing a dream-like imagery, though consciousness doesn't necessarily get altered. The person in the following article described seeing intense mandala like imagery and full movie-like landscapes;

Interesting enough the creator of the dreamachine thought that they could probably be used in place of tv and where tvs are placed in the house as he was thinking that people could get more into watching their internal landscapes instead of commercial programing. I find that idea to be quite interesting......virtual reality has a similar premise though virtual reality relies more on virtual software/hardware than using the mind's creative abilities. Though it does make you also wonder whether psychedelics and dreamier drugs would be more popular than the tv if they were more easily able to be promoted.
