Hello community...I don't know how to really start this so I guess I'm starting it like this. I read about Salvia online (on Wikipedia on a random page search) and found it very interesting, the moments of introspection and transcendence of reality are concepts I'm not familiar with. I've never smoked, period, neither tobacco nor pot, despite both being prevalent in my household. I drink only occasionally, and my only real experience with drugs was a point in my teenage years when I was addicted to Hydrocodone (lortab). I am an atheist, but I am also spiritual, I believe it's important to know yourself and I'm considering Salvia as a way of unlocking areas of the mind I've previously left alone. I bought an ounce of dried leaf from Herbalfire (whom consequently I've heard nothing from for three days now). I am expecting that I'll start with the quid, as I have no apparatus for smoking leaf and by all accounts I would need an extract such as 5x to compensate for the difference in how it's absorbed by the body. There are stores locally that sell standardized packs of SD, so I'm not ruling it out, it's more of a personal aversion to smoking.

It seems like salvia is also getting a bad rap with the media, and the many videos on the internet of people recording their experiences which baffles me; I don't know what they're trying to accomplish. I am not viewing this as a way to get "fucked up" or as a "legal high", but as a tool for knowledge of self. I'll be reporting back when the stuff from Herbalfire arrives anyway but I think I can come up with a few questions for you all in the meantime.

-One of the main issues with the quid seems to be people can't get over the bitter taste of the leaf. I'm going to be trying to overcome that with sugar, honey, or something like that, has anyone found an effective solution (pardon the pun)?

-As I said I may try the extract as well, but as I understand it they come in 1 gram packs and the average dose (or what I would consider an average dose for my purposes) would be 0.11g (1/9 of a gram, easier to split up), I don't think I'd like having that many piles of extract laying about, I imagine a gelatin capsule would work to hold the doses but I have no idea where to find them. Is it something you could expect to find in local stores?

Thank you guys, a sense of community (and trust, and experienced guidance) is reassuring to me.

Welcome to the forum !

If my memory doesn't trick me, the quid method only works with dry/fresh leaves, not with the extract. In this case I'd advice you to buy your own plant... it is also that you have a better connection to the plant and "you know what you have".

Salvia is indeed very special, a lot of people consider it as being to aggressive meaning: to short and strong. But it is best to try out yourself.

Refreshed the page just as you'd posted, sorry I may not have been clear, I bought an ounce of dried foliage from Herbalfire, which I'll soak in water to resaturate them and go from there. If it is something I'd like to pursue I'm fairly sure I'd buy a plant at that point but I don't want to invest that heavily in something I haven't experienced.

The local shops sell SD in extracts ranging from 5x to 40x depending on where you go, but nobody carries foliage, fresh or dried, thus why I bought it online.

Yes, initially it was random but I've researched it quite a bit since then, namely the full erowid document and the FAQ at Sage Wisdom. I would not pursue this unless I was confident I had at least the background knowledge on what it is, what it does, and what is considered safe and a good starting point.

Thanks for the replies. :)

okay  I see you are more than just a new student.

btw I thought about it: I don't think that honey etc would disturb the effect but it could be more a matter of comfort....chewing honey for 20 minutes or so may not be very nice  maybe you could make the water where you refresh your leaves sweet?

Hey welcome to the forum!

Don't expect too much of the first times, especially with quids.
I've tried quiding the first time and I had my whole mouth full for 1,5 hours, but nothing happened.
And I know for a fact that the source was very good.
But who knows, maybe you have a lower tollerence.

Anyway have fun!
I hope you find what you're looking for

Welcome to the forum.. if you look through you'll find a few posts and experiences on the quid method in this section.

The quid method is definitely gentler than smoking in my experience. I never really lost lucidity completely like I did when smoking Salvia, it was more like I could relax and allow myself to sort of fall into Salvia-land.

For me it took about 4-5g of leaves to work (and it didn't always fully work either). It is a bit awkward not swallowing for 20-30 minutes--your mouth will really fill up with saliva during that amount of time and your senses will be amplified greatly also.. you will have to keep the quid in your mouth until you reach the level you want to go to. You might have to keep shoving leaves in as well, might have to chew them down a bit first to fit all 5g in :P

Find a relaxing space where you can sit down.. Have a little bowl to spit out the leaves into nearby :D As soon as you spit it out the effects will slowly start to dissipate..

Salvia is fascinating and very interesting to experiment with, but I find it very abstract and quite different than the classic psychedelics. Starting with a small dose of mushrooms is much better for personal growth IMO. Or for (still) legal substances, there is peruvian torch or san pedro..

And yeah, reading up fully on this stuff is pretty essential also IMO.. making sure you have a safe and suitable set/setting..

I'm planning on trying the quid method in the next few days actually. I haven't tried it since last year. Should be an interesting experience..

I`d like to see someone get 30 grams of fresh leaves in their mouth . A quid the size of a table tennis ball always worked good for me .
