I've an Artemisia plant growing in my garden. I heard a couple reports of people who use it, gaining some light mind-altering states. I picked a small leaf-branch and attempted to dry it. What's odd about wormwood, is it doesn't really 'dry'; It doesn't become crisp or flaky as does Salvia leafs, or cannabis. It stays a bit soft and slightly moist. I did attempt to smoke the leafs when it wasn't fully dry, and I did have some very light effects; general mood was better, I felt floaty, unlike cannabis or sage, which makes you feel 'heavy.' It still wasn't wasn't anything very noticeable. I felt that I could get more out of a cigarette than this.

I was wondering if there was an alternative way of attaining some effect by either letting the leafs dry for a few months (I let them dry for about 3 weeks and they still weren't 'dry' yet') or, making tea out of them, or just chewing on the leaf for a while.

Has anyone else attained some effect off of the Wormwood / Artemisia plant another way? Or at all?

it is a bit poisonous. you could soak it in alcohol ala absynthe. i think it is the oil content that keeps it from becoming truely dry. it is designed for arid conditions though, it could just be the waxy cuticle and fine hairs stopping it drying out properly. personally i wouldnt experiment too much with it

From what little experience I have with wormwood (Artemisia absinthum, there are many other plants in that genus), I can say this plant has some psychoactive properties. I've never tried making it into a crude absinthe; instead, I smoked some dried wormwood, and also made tea out of it.

The effects of smoking a bowl of dried wormwood are very subtle; I would have dismissed them as the effects gained from inhaling smoke instead of air, was it not for the fact that they lasted 15-30 minutes. I don't think there's much to be experienced from smoking wormwood beyond a slight light-headedness and a mild relaxation.

The effects of a tea are quite similar to that of smoking wormwood, but stronger. I made some tea by boiling water, then lowering it to simmer and added the plant material. After stirring for about 15 minutes, I was left with two large cups of very bitter tea. It's no wonder to me now why the falling star that turns the rivers undrinkable in the Revelation is called Absinthe. I downed the two mugs with some maple syrup, and soon felt a wave of relaxation. Again, it was hard to make the difference between that feeling and the one gained from drinking hot tea, but I'm pretty confident wormwood had an effect, especially since getting it down was not pleasant. About 30 minutes later, the effects had tapered off.

Since you're going through the work of growing wormwood, I definately recommand you experiment with it. If you are going to make absinthe out of it, tell us about the effects!

Would putting the fresh wordwood in with something like silica gel work for drying?

ROFL !

If you didn't try yet ! DO NOT CHEW or make a tea out of the herb unless you absolutely LOVE bitter things...

This one is hard to beat, maybe only dream herb is more bitter than that ! Yuck !

What is nice to do is to dip it in alcohol , then distill your alcohol, the tuyones will come along and the bitterness will stay down with the water.

then you can add some water to make it around 40% again and dip it with nice aroma herbs like cinnamon and peppermint...

*at this point it's ilegal in most countries*

Be careful this stuff is really potent when concentrated like this, it's a stimulant much like amphetamines, but it will make you crazy like cocaine if you abuse it, and this is one of the baddest badtrips you can have !

There were threads about this , one is in the german section . Acording to the newest research i have found it has no effect . The storys about absinth arent true . It wasnt the thujon it was the alcohol .

I submit the research was founded by people who want to sell you stimulants. All essential oils are psychoactive and dangerously concentrated, anyone who says the contrary is a crackhead that can't get high from a cofee.
