Put water in a coffee mug, and put a shot glass in the mug as well. boil the water in the microwave for like 10 minutes. Take the shot glass out of the mug, and place it under a cup (no air born contaminates). Fill your syringe with the hot water from the mug, squirt it out, fill it up again and this time let it sit in the syringe. After like an hour or so, once everythin' has cooled down, then scrape the spores into the shot glass usin' a brand new razor or x-acto knife blade..or you could sterilize an old one. Squirt the water from the syringe into the shotglass, and stir with the needle. Then suck it up, squirt it out, and suck it up again..i recommend gettin' a little air with the final intake of the liquid so you can shake up the syringe and get the spores all moved around.

There ya have it..very easy to do, just make sure everythin' is sterile, and make sure the water is cooled before you mix the spores with it.

I have two seringues of 5cc that i have to prepare myself, is one seringue of 5cc enough to innoculate 5 or 6 cakes of 1/4 l . If yes, is one spore print enough for 5 cc of water (i only have 3 sporeprints). I know this is a bit technical but i would really like to succed in my culture. seeya

huhum, sorry but another question, in the garden shop next to my place, they sell vermiculite but, its presented in granules really big : approx 1,5 cm3 orange fuckers. Do you think it works the same than normal vermiculite if i crunch the granules into a powder?
For the brown rice flower i have to make it myself with long brown rice into a cofee cruncher. I guess that should do the trick.

People recommend 1cc per jar, but i find that's too hard to do, so i usually give 'em 2cc. And one spore print should be enough for about 10 syringes.

About the vermiculite, it sounds ok, but crushin' it up also sounds like a good idea. Good luck.

Hey.
I finally made my first cakes with normal vermiculite and rye flour (hope i did everything right). I innoculated them yesterday. The spores i got are spores coming from cubensis from the azarius growbox. When i scratched the spores off the foil, they did not fall out as an invisible powder but it fell off in black compact little pelicules, they did not dilute very properly, but i said to myself (what a wonderfull world

) that if i could see those particules with my eyes the water should be saturated off spores though the mixture did not have a specific color (it stayed translucid). I innoculed my 8 cakes and stocked them in a dark box in an area at about 23°c. Now i'm waiting a week to see if the spores will create myscelium. Did anybody have the same case of problem when making the seringues?

So how did it go ?! How are your cakes going...?! It's been a long time since you posted, something must have happened!! Share it with us !!

yes it is always a problem for me to put the spores in the syringe with staying sterile, so i use mycelium to inoculate my jars .

hey
Ok my first cakes are not coloniezd entirely yet. 3 of em have miscelium but really not lookin like it's gonna colonize the whole thing. 5 of em have no sign of miscelium (thought i re-innoculated them a week after first innoculation. In the meantime i made 8 other cakes i innoculed them the same way but they all got contamned. So now, i'm growin miscelium in honey/water solution, to innocule directly miscelium (as you do apparently drganj). My half pint jar of honeywater is 1/3 full of a nice white fluffy cloud of miscelium. I'm gonna make my jars tomorrow, i'll keep you informed...

why don t you try with grain substrate ? i inoculate jars of rye grain , the advantage is that you can shake the jars every 3 or 4 days to mix the whole thing .
this way all the jars will be fully colonysed , and when a jar is fully white i open it and i put it in 3 or 4 others jars , it s another way to inoculate with mycelium,in fact i ve never succeed with honeywater , but it seems you re doing well with this tech.

hey drganj, looks like you're the first french person i meet in a forum that seems to be into fungi culture. I would like to ask tips on cake makin' but in french, mail me so we do not disturb this place... [email:3kigi8vl][email protected][/email:3kigi8vl]
Je suis interressé grave par ta technique d'innoculation, ça fait deux mois que j'essaye de faire ces jolis petits gateaux mais touts les documents et forums que j'ai sous la main sont en anglais... donc pas pratique. ya des forums sur le sujet en français?
