Free market will cure anything. If it is truly free. The basic tenement of incentive is been proven over and over again. Why did this country grow and thrive between 1890 and about 1980? Capitalism, baby.

So what happened after 1980? Oh, and a free market historically doesn't exist. What you had in the US for so long is called protectionism, not a free market. Capitalism only works in a heavily regulated state with a lot of central planning. If there is no control on capitalism, it will destroy everything, because everything will be commodified and sold to the highest bidder. Prove me wrong.

Why did the Soviet union and East germany collapse? You guessed it. Socialism. (no incentive). You can't legislate that people do the right thing.

And all the time people thought it was the neurotic government propaganda and surveillance. Glad you came along to correct this historical error! Socialism never existed and will never exist, because people always abuse power.

That is my point about living your life during your lifetime. Besides, how can you be sure that something is not on the horizon inventionwise to get us out of all this? You can't. I always like when people talk about 'the slaves'. Remember the black folk that were so mistreated years back in the USA?
I tell 'em this; If I gave you 20 men to work your fields for you, would you beat and starve them? Or would you make sure they were well fed and happy, so as to get the most work from them?

I believe capitalism thrives, then crashes in a cycle. It's an unavoidable fact of life. How could I be any nicer to the environment? Not drive? Gotta work. Don't eat meat? I'm hungry. I do the basics- no trash, recycle, no smoking cars, reduced water use, etc. I thought everybody did. :wink:

It is possible to have a relationship without exploitation, you know. And think about the bigger picture: if everybody on earth drove a big car and ate meat, we wouldn't be alive. You have got to let the Earth serve you by taking care of her in the best way possible, because than the Earth is best suited to take care of you. It is a feedback loop and there is no one serving the other. If you do bad and others do bad with you, you will get served.
