Yes, America is fucked. The neo-conservatives muck it up like anyone else. Remember, everything took a turn for the worse here because of the Democrat(liberal)-controlled Congress. They make and pass laws. The president does not. Free-market/capitalism works most of the time. BTW, Obama hails from Chicago. Read about thier unemployment, city politics, budget, fiascos, scandals, etc. Worst in the nation. Government always fucks things up. What's new?

If you care to remember the way it REALLY went down, 'Congress' forbade president Reagan and his skull-n-bones crony, George H.W. Bush from meddling in the affairs of a soveriegn nation, ( namely; Nicaragua) then, as a response, Reagan and Bush hired Ollie North to help them funnel money, illegally, btw, since Congress refused to fund the war, as it was an ILLEGAL WAR, to the so-called Contras.
The REPUBLICANS then created the entire crack-cocaine epidemic in the United States, in order to generate a black-funding source for the Contras.
(You may not know this, but a man won a PULITZER PRIZE documenting these things for the San Jose Mercury-Herald newspaper in the last century.)
They also traded some arms with some present day boogeymen from the mideast (can you guess who? Sure you can, Iran) for cash to funnel,ILLEGALLY, to the Contras.

Also, Al GORE won the popular vote, last time.....and the electoral college came in for him as well, but Georgy boy happened to have a brother who was governor in a critical state, Florida, who recalled the electoral college votes, altered them, and CHANGED the outcome of a presidential election.

Not a lot, to be honest, but they are by far the lesser of two evils.
The TYPE of changes they do bring are inevitably for the common person, as opposed to tax breaks for Exxon, etc.
Also, here's a historical trivia question;
Excepting the current administration, what administration in the 20th century ran up the highest deficit? ( Reagan-Bush)
Who balanced it? (Bill Clinton)
Who now has broken the old record and ran up the highest debt in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD? (George W. Bush and DICK Cheney)
Also, the democrats are much greater in tune with the spirit of the Constitution, as pertains to individual rights.....such as the right to be secure in your persons, against illegal searches, etc....
The republicans couldn't care less about rights such as freedom of speech, or illegal searches, etc....their attitude is that if one has enough money, one can buy their way out of any predicament, hence, no need for a constitution.
In case people such as ellis are reading this, I'd like to remind them that America is rapidly heading the way of South Africa, in that the ruling class is soon to find itself a minority, to say the least.....the clinging to power will eventually be stopped, and the fat lady is singing somewhere over the mountain.

very true :? Very sad that the media are so strong in the US. They really are the fourth pillar of politics (is this expression common in English??). I also think the US would get off better if they invested more in education... Racist, fundamentalist, a-scientific education is profitable in short-term but will bring ruin long-term! We now have the unique possibility to give education, literacy to the whole world but we seem to go in opposite direction :?

I generalized because I realized a long time ago that 'both' parties suck. Bush this and Bush that. I agree. But I believe the liberal alternative is worse. Very simple. (see comment on 'cooking with camel dung'). You'd be here forever quantizing and qualifying every one of the atrocities committed by anyone. So, I vote conservative, vote down any bonds, usually get encumbents out, go against the U.N., and environmentalists. I love the environment, like I said, but you gotta live your life during your lifetime. Free market will cure anything. If it is truly free. The basic tenement of incentive is been proven over and over again. Why did this country grow and thrive between 1890 and about 1980? Capitalism, baby. Why did the Soviet union and East germany collapse? You guessed it. Socialism. (no incentive). You can't legislate that people do the right thing. Remember, nothing is 100%, but the alternative is worse, I believe. Did I adequately address my 'beloved' Republicans enough for you? Industry is already fleeing the USA in droves. Why? Environmental laws which China or India does not practice. And unions which falsely inflate wages. (and subsequntly drive prices up, so we buy the cheaper stuff from others...). Are we being foolish, or just naive?
