Smokable Opium FAQ

So, I have some Papaver Somniferum Seeds here...My question is how to make smokable opium out of them. Some helpful tips would be great.

I heard that growing it is quite easy. When to start? April? Switzerland has some medium climate...But anything to consider?

Then the process. I already read about how to get the opium per se but I have no idea how to make some smokable opium out of it. If you provide links I'd still be very glad for some personal tips and advice.

you will need some good dark soil. clear it of all weeds and turn it over, dig down deep- at least 45cm. sprinkle the seeds on top and just cover them, dont bury them or they wont germinate. when you do this depends on when your growing season starts. wait till around the last frost.

so you are saying that I should not grow them at home but rather find a nice place for them?

now you have low grade opium.

is there a way to make it to a better quality?

I'm guessing you already know, but if somebody else is going the same route, and needs to know about getting the latex...

I believe that the latex containing the Morphine and Codeine is in a layer between the outer skin of the green seed pods, and the inner skin of the seedpod. The technique for getting it out, as I understand, involves carefully cutting through the first layer in several places for each pod with a sharp knife, and then wait 10-12 hours before scraping the latex from the pods.

Apparently the time when you harvest the latex is crucial, too soon and it will be too watery, and too late and the alkaloid level drops. An article on Erowid suggests making 'test' incisions at regular intervals to check the consistency...

Anyways, the Erowid article on harvesting is here, and the main altricle on cultivation is here; I'd say the information there should be enough for anyone wanting to try growing their own opium.

As for improving the quality of the opium, I'm not sure what you could do, really. You could probably perform an extraction on the opium you've got, if it's not good enough quality for you. You'd be looking to extract Morphine and Codeine, which are the key alkaloids. Going this route could potentially get you into more trouble with the law, though, as you could probably then synthesise Diamorphine (Heroin) from the extracted alkaloids; I don't think the police would be very happy if you started doing that.

It depends on the seeds you use , there are starins wich produce a lot of alkaloids and strains wich dont .

Harvest it , dry it , mix it with water , heat it and then separate the fat layer off and throw it away . One could also do that then an A/B extraction .

The plants can also be dryed powdered and cooked up in hot water to make an extract .

Hmm I got mine from a simple flower shop. Would be interesting to find out how they work. Maybe I should buy another strain...But it is difficult as the indication is only "Papaver Somniferum". No idea what exactly they are.

grow them at home, but in good quality well manured soil (manure being either well rotted dung, well rotted plant material or good quality fertilizer) - or, any good dark natural soil. they will grow in anything, even pure sand, but they love loose deep natural soil. if its dark it has a high organic content.

If I understood it right, there is a difference between making opium tea and smokable opium. I personally would prefer smokable, is there a difference or am I completely wrong?

They arent the right ones . The right ones are either from a grower or a GOOD special seed shop but probably most of them just sell crap seeds .

Start when the weather is right about the start of may . They dont take long to grow so sewing trhem out later probably wont hurt either .

Ask questions .

There will be a diference in the effects between the resin from the capsules and the extract from the whole plants . But one doesnt have to drink the extract one can dry it and smoke it .

perhaps you could ask them witch strain produces the strongest opium?

The content has to do with the type of seeds , the time of year one plants them , the fertiliser they get and stopping watering them when they flower .

One can grow them in pots starting in april and then replant them outside when the weather is not cold anymore .

aren't those seeds heat treated so they wont grow anymore?
