Woohoow, my first babies are ready to harvest,
but i have several questions...

1. After i harvest them, do i soak the whole box in water again for 24hrs or just spray it a little?
2. Some of my shrooms opened up already (i know, i'm too late), but will this help to give me more shrooms on the next flush (since the spores will drop when harvesting)
3. Can i use a paper towel to dry them on? I'm planning to dry them on a cardboard with holes in em, lying on some paper towels.

Please help me asap and i'll provide some pics of the harvest! :D
Thanks !

PS: They're golden teachers

hello mate!!

1) you need to soak the whole box in water for 24 hours again!

2) not sure about that but it won't hurt... i often harvested my shrooms too late as well and it has never been a problem

3) yes you can... i always used normal towels for drying 'em and it worked just fine

good luck mate and remember: "better safe than sorry"!!! so educate yourself well about the subject and maybe read some experiences before you eat them if it will be also the first time consuming shrooms!!!!!

peace :weedman:

Thanks man,
as promised i'll include the pics i made while harvesting :)

they look yummie, it's been quite a while since i ate shrooms, but ive been eating the replacement Truffels instead.
About 200grams of fresh golden teachers on the first flush, let's hope the next ones will be as good as this one.

If you're going to dry them on kitchen paper, do turn them around regularly, or the paper will stick to your shrooms. I personally would have harvested them a little earlier, before the caps open.

Ye i'm aware :(
Yesterday would have been better, but damn do they grow fast.
I thought i had one more day for the little ones to grow a bit more, but they've opened up as well.
I'm planning to turn them every now and then, and i'm gonna harvest my next flush a day sooner.

I'm planning to try and grow shrooms without the growkit, so could anyone get me started a little.
I have no idea where i could buy the supplements or even the jars (i live in belgium-ghent)

Another question is if it's a good way to continue growing with live samples of the shrooms i just harvested (wet ofc) instead of a syringe.
It seems the cheapest way to start with, as i'm not planning to grow different types of shrooms yet.

Thanks for all the help and comment so far :)

Ps: How long would it take for the shrooms to dry, they're near a window for a fresh breeze, no direct sunlight, about 25°C in the room.
PPs: So what is the exact reason of harvesting them before the caps open? Do the spores that fall out cause a reduced effect?

the "substrates" you'll be using are usually just plain old grains like rye, wheat, corn. different teks will tell you to use different substrates. things like jars can be obtained usually at a grocery, for the purpose of canning things like pickles or making jam yourself. so those aren't too too hard to find. others should have more advice soon on the actual fungi itself..

The reason behind picking muchrooms before the caps open is cosmetic.
When the spores are released, youre shrooms will turn black/blue-ish but also youre substrate and youre filterbag will also be covered whit spores.
When you get an infection in youre growkit, you probably couldn't see it cause everythings black.
This is the only reason, for me that is.

I'm not sure, but I remember hearing that if the caps open, it gives off a gas or a hormone that makes the mycelium stop producing more mushrooms. However, I've seen quite a few flushes coming from spore-covered cakes.

I usually put them on my stereo, where they dry within two or three days. They should be so dry, that you can snap them. If they bend, don't put them in a ziplock bag or in the freezer yet.

There are a couple of online smartshops where you can get the materials you need (see the banners on this website). Not all regular smartshops sell these items. There is a 'starters growkit' that contains the basic materials you need, but you can also get everything separately.

I'm not sure what you mean. Cloning? Mixing the mycelium with new substrate? Sounds like pretty advanced stuff, not even sure if it's possible.

^you can mince a mushroom and mix it with substrate and new mycelium will develop. You have to work under sterile conditions, though, because the risk of contamination is high.
