meh i know you and others are worried about being traced and what not but in my particular case i consider myself pretty safe because i don't think it's plausible that i'm going to be sued for downloading music, porn, comics and some movies. it's not worth the hazzle. big companies like the RIAA have filed lawsuits in misguided attempts at stopping the sharing of music and they have backfired.

Wikipedia a dit:
In October 1998, the Recording Industry Association of America filed a lawsuit in the Ninth U.S. Court of Appeals in San Francisco claiming the Diamond Multimedia Rio PMP300 player violated the 1992 Audio Home Recording Act. The Rio PMP300 was significant because it was the second portable consumer MP3 digital audio player released on the market. The three judge panel ruled in favor of Diamond, paving the way for the development of the portable digital player market.[30]

RIAA has also filed suit in 2006 to enjoin digital XM Satellite Radio from enabling its subscribers from playing songs it has recorded from its satellite broadcasts.[31] It is also suing several Internet radio stations.[32]

On December 21, 2006, the RIAA filed a lawsuit against Russian owned and operated website AllOfMP3.com in the amount of $1.65 trillion ($1,650,000,000,000). This number was derived from multiplying 11 million songs with statutory damages of $150,000 per song. The Moscow court ruled in favor of AllOfMP3.com[33]

On April 28, 2008, RIAA member labels sued Project Playlist, a web music search site, claiming their copyrights are infringed by the site's index of links. Project Playlist's website denies that any of the music is hosted on Project Playlist's own servers.

as you can see, they go for big targets, they know it'd be irrational to go against us, the end users. so i say: if you're downloading your usual stuff from home you don't have to get all cautious about it. in fact, give back to your peers that allowed you to see that movie or get that book you wanted. leave the pc on for a night or something at least.

and yeah, you can be logged, but how would you know which sites/clients log their users and who don't? i think that if you don't have other potentially compromising stuff at home... then you shouldn't worry that much.

At least in Germany the industry has to prove that you at least once uploaded a whole album/movie whatever. So they use emule and download from you - easy to do.
With Bittorrent it's a lot harder, because even if you share to a 1:1 ratio (which you have to or Karma will kill you!) you will never upload the whole thing to one user. The most they can get from you is something like a 25-50% part of a torrent, which is not enough to prove that you uploaded copyrighted stuff.

However, be careful anyways, because they only need one plausible reason to send the police to your home and confiscate your computer. Even if they didn't find anything, you'd have a hard time getting your stuff back. And they don't mind if your diploma thesis is on that harddrive - you are suspected of stealing from the powerful industry, that totally justifies ruining your life!

The link you gave was good Spice ......But ....the laws in germany are passed . There are also new laws in the UK . The EU has decided that there will be no EU law and that each country must choose their own regulations . The bigest minus in that link is that those people dont seem to know about the software that the industry uses to watch and control file shareing . They can slow cues down . Introduce false packets . Trace the people in ques . Lengthen ques with non existant people . = it all holds you in ques and makes you steal / provide stolen data for much longer and to more people .

Heres a clip about the UK .

British Lawyer to Defend Copyright Criminals Free of Charge as a response to what he considers an unfair trial British lawyer to defend, free of charge, persons involved in copyright infringement cases Michael Coyle, owner of Lawdit Solicitors, a company that offers legal advice in matters of intellectual property and copyright infringement, has decided to lend a helping hand to those who illegally share copyrighted files. The lawyer announced his intention to fight back at Davenport Lyons, a law firm that was assigned the task of suing and getting legal damages from all the people who are reported to have infringed copyrights in the UK.

Moreover, Coyle is going to hold a brief for everyone interested, because, as he says, he fails to understand why P2P file sharing is considered to infringe copyrights. "If there are persistent infringers then surely the infringers must be ceased. However are the defendants infringing the copyright of the rights holder? According to the laws of copyright, copyright in a work is infringed by a person who without the licence of the copyright owner does, or authorises another to do, any of the acts restricted by the copyright." he said.

The British attorney also offered the example of Isabella Barwinska, in an obvious attempt to strike a cord with his audience, reminding them that a single mother had to pay over £16,000 for sharing Dream Pinball 3D on a P2P network. Moreover, Coyle even expressed his doubts that Barwinska had a fair trial to begin with. "Rather the award was made after Ms Barwinska failed to make an appearance or even enter a defence. This is what the Lawyers may indeed be hoping for. A trial will ensure legal arguments will be heard and one party will not be railroaded."

According to Davenport Lyons, in the near future, at least 7,000 more people will receive letters asking them to pay for what they have illegally used. In case they refuse to pay up, file sharers may experience the fate of the woman who was eventually coerced by law into paying a large amount of money. "My advice if you have received a letter is to fight it. I will defend your case for free." the lawyer assures.

i like that lawyer

If we could find one like him we could legalise drugs .
If we could find one like him we could legalise drugs .
If we could find one like him we could legalise drugs .
If we could find one like him we could legalise drugs .
If we could find one like him we could legalise drugs .

Explain.

Wochameen ?

Explain how it would trigger a string of events that will result in the legalization of drugs.

Fork, I think he means that the attitude of being so willing to fight them, and for free at that, is one of the things lacking in legalization efforts....not an altogether bad point, but I think what's lacking more is for people to quit being such wimps about it, to get mad as hell and just start refusing to put up with semantic ploys such as

'the doctor says it's ok to take Ambien, therefore it's not a drug, it's MEDICINE'

This is a word trick.

It's a fucking drug.

OR

'The government regulates alcohol and nicotine, that's why they're legal'

BULL-----SHIT

The government subsidizes and taxes those DRUGS,and T-H-A-T is why they're legal......they're addictive poisons that pose no dangerous threat of actually waking up a user, the only threat is to the physical well-being of the users, and these threats are addressed by another government mule, DOCTORS AND PHARMACEUTICAL companies.

No, the only thing that is ever going to alter the drug laws is the outright wrath of the people, boosted with some more learning, on a massive scale,
so that the propaganda can be neutralized.

Thanks both of you . I will explain in a few days when i can think straight . I`m to tired and confused now .

About UltraReach
Founded by a group of successful entrepreneurs, renowned scientists and engineers in Silicon Valley who dedicated to providing technologies and service for people to exchange information on Internet freely and safely, UltraReach is the first company with a mission that offers Internet technology and service immune to the national Internet censorship in China.

Internet anti-censorship technology was thought of as "mission impossible" two years ago. We started thorough R&D on other existing technologies as well as from end users' perspective. While other existing technologies were developed for user's privacy and anonymity on Internet, we solved the connection and reconnection problem, which is the key issue for user to access web site without being blocked. Built on solid theoretical analysis and professional quality, UltraReach has successfully invented the technology platform called the GIFT system, which offers guaranteed connection and reconnection service to users inside these censor countries and capability of serving very large number of users with affordable resource. More than one year live service performance has proved that the GIFT technology has successfully broken through the so-called "Great Firewall" which is built with state-of-art firewall equipments and softwares with virtually unlimited resource from government.

Powered by GIFT technology, UltraReach.Net portal is the first home page for users to visit when they are connected to our service. Through the web portal users inside the censored zones can surf any public web sites in the free world. It naturally becomes a precious window for users inside China to look out for world news and other web contents that are blocked. The UltraReach.Net attracts thousands of users in China with daily news stories, featured articles and links from world media, governmental and non-governmental organizations, different groups and individual sites.

The outstanding performance of our service has made UltraReach Internet well known among the users who seek the Internet freedom in the censored country, and at the meantime attracted heavy attacks from Chinese Internet police. The GIFT system has survived various assaults including DNS hijacking, IP blocking, DOS attacking etc. We've taken the threats from the censor as opportunities to continuously improve the performance and reliability of our technology. In fact, the GIFT system has been mature enough for reliable service and it depends on the financial resource to expand its user base.

The next-level solution from UltraReach Internet as well as the real time performance has proved that our system and service is by far superior to other existing technologies. The main differentiators consist of anti-blocking power, connection and re-connection capability and the ability to serve and maintain a very large number of users from inside China. As the clear leader among the Internet anti-jamming technology and service providers, we are currently the only one that can offer reliable service to deliver web contents to the massive number of users in China.
