I attached an image of a few piles of crystals. (log in in to see)
Background:
#1 is from extraction 1, and all others are different grades from a second extraction. Both were done about half batches (~200gm mimosa hostilis) of Marsofold extract. They were done with root bark from the same vendor. Extraction 1 just had one naptha pull, Extraction 2 had three. (This was all done by a distant friend of mine, named He.)
Different Piles:
1: remainder of extraction 1 (what we didn't consume already). Very white crystal-like flaky. The pile there weighs only ~95mg.
5: first naptha draw, extraction 2. This was lightly scrapped from the pan after drying. Whitest of extraction 2. Much more powdery than pile 1. ~500mg.
2: first naptha draw, extraction 2. This was caught in filter paper pouring off tray from first naptha pull. Pretty white. Much more powdery. That pile weights about ~375mg.
3: second draw, extraction 2. Caught in filter paper when pouring off, not much left in pan but small amount of very yellow crystals (not shown). This pile was washed, although it didn't seem to change color much. ~400mg.
4: third draw, extraction 2. Caught in filter paper when pouring off jars. He used three baby food jars since he didn't have any more glass sheets to use. These were also washed with chilled ammonia.
Results:
Extraction 1 clearly produced much less dense, crystal-like, bright white product. Extraction 2 produced various grades (whiteness) of much more dense more powdery product.
Differences in Extractions:
The main difference is that for extraction 1, much more lye. Almost as much as much as was suggested for a full batch. He used volume to measure lye, but used the exact brand mentioned in the tek. He did not have any pH tester.
He also made the freezer a little bit colder for extraction 2.
The main blunder scientifically is that he re-used some of the naptha from the first extraction for the 2nd and 3rd draws on extraction 2. So, it's possible (and likely) that there was some level of DMT that didn't precipitate in extraction 1.
What does this mean:
So, there's really not a scientific way to analyze it since there were too many variables, but leads to some hypotheses.
It seems most likely that adding extra lye before doing the naptha pull may make a more crystally, lighter product. (It looks more refined, but it's difficult to compare DMT content.)
If not that, then a slightly less cold freezer may help make the product lighter and apparently more refined.
It definitely seems like a good idea to do multiple naptha pulls. At least 3. He probably lost a lot in extraction 1 since he only did one pull. If you do full batches or bigger, then multiple extractions are even more important.
Sorry it's not more scientific. If there is any definitive conclutions from future extractions, I will post them.
