hey i have a few books on my list to read, tell me which ones are more worthwhile than others, and tell me any other books that are good,
im looking for something that involves psychedelics, expansion of consciousness, psyche, self actualization, meditation, you get the idea, the more of these things are in the book the better, i really want to read stuff that regular people would find to be "out there"
anyway so far on my list are:
DMT the spirit molecule;
the cosmic serpent;
the archaic revival;
true hallucinations;
breaking open the head;
psychedelic information theory;
the shaman's last apprentice;
tripping;
mushrooms and mankind;

so give me suggestions plz

I have not read that much, and there's still a lot of books in my collection I still have to read.
But besides T. McKenna's books, I really enjoyed reading Pharmako/Poeia, /Dynamis, and /Gnosis by Dale Pendell, so my advice is to read those.

DMT the spirit molecule is one of a kind, if i'm not mistaking this was the only legal DMT research ever.

You are mistaken, in DMT the Spirit Molecule, Strassman also tells about a Hungarian researcher, Dr. Stephen Szara who also did legal DMT research quite a long time before Strassman ;)

Ontopic: Crack in the Cosmic Egg
Haven't read it myself yet, but I only hear great reactions to it

2012 - The Return of Quetzalcoatl by Daniel Pinchbeck
anything by Zoe7: www.zoe7.com
the secret chief
the secret chief revealed
plant spirit medicine

I have flipped through and read about a quarter of "DMT: The spirit molecule", and it had some very interesting stories. I plan on reading it in its entirety when i get the chance...

DMT - The spirit molecule is indeed a nice piece of work.
I'm surprised your list doesn't include the Shulgins' PIHKAL and TIHKAL yet. Although the second parts of those books are all about the chemistry, the first halves are a beautiful story about a psychedelic research group, combined with politics, philosophy, psychiatry and chemistry, all related to psychoactive substances of course. I'd recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. :)

Another classic is Aldous Huxley's "The Doors of Perception", in which he's describing his mescaline experience.

By the way, could you please add the names of the authors to that list? I'm always looking for new material on this subject. :wink:

There are so many books. Generation Hex by Jason louv is very nice.
Dealing with magick and psychedelics.
And of course books by Christian Rätsch, Timothy Leary, Ralph Metzner, Ram Dass, and Robert A Wilson.

There is so much reading material out there.
Just search the erowid character vault.

The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross - John Allegro. theory about drugs in the bible.

You should indeed read aldous huxley's "the doors of perception", it's genius and i think it really is what you are looking for. Besides that Carlos Castaneda has written a great book about pechote, I think it was called "the lessons of don juan". And someone just told me to read Herman Hesse's "Steppenwolf".
The other books of hesse i have read are good too, but this one seems to be about drug experiences too.

P.S. Could you indeed post the names of the authors with the titles so we can check out those books too.

Sounds to me like you have got some very old friends "The doors of perception " is a realy good book but the ones by Carlos Casteneda are not realy a good source of information about taking drugs , he read about it but obviously didnt do most of what he talked about , but the first few books are definately worth reading and i`ve been told that the last book he wrote before he died went back to that quality after he had a middle period of writing crap books........ The Herman Hess book/s are not realy relevant to trippers today , they are good , but come from a diferent generation and are in my opinion are not directly helpfull enough , you have to do to much thinking about what he is realy trying to say . Castaneda is better in being directly aplicablre to anyone todays daily life and carear as a psychonaut .

When i was a kid there was a sort of unoficial list of all the books a serious hippy had to have read and they were all on it!!!!!!!!..........so i read them .

Be here now - Ram Dass
And if you can find it:
Book of Mother.

I just read some Robert Anton Wilson and I highly recommend it :)
