Is DMT produced in pineal gland?

Hi All,

I would love to know of any scientific research into this question with humans or other mammals. I've heard postulations and understand the reasoning behing them, but have not seen any evidence or references. Among the claims I've heard are that DMT is released upon birth, death, near-death experiences, light/sensory deprivation, and just recently, even when you sleep. Any help is appreciated!

That DMT is produced in the pineal gland is only a theory, proposed by Rick Strassman in his book DMT Spirit Molecule, not an established fact. I wonder if Rick discusses this matter further in his new book.

Strassman really did not come up with that theory, it was suspected much earlier by other researchers.
