hi,

i'm growing "amazonian xtc" (cubensis?) and for the last week i've had a lot of tiny mushrooms (1.5 - 2 cm) that hardly grow. i've also had 5-6 grownups but that's all. what could be the problem?

temperature is 23 *C as it should be, i'm spraying every other day, moisture is high (condense water on the bag), no direct sunlight.. although i'm keeping them in my livingroom that's not very well ventilated (maybe too much CO2?)

thanks for any advice :)

It might be helpfull if you could show us a picture of how you keep them . Of them in the bag .

Something is VERY wrong. They look like they want to but cant . It looks like to much CO2 but not just that . Something must change and there is not much at this stage you can change other than more air and/or less water .

I also had a growbox with this problem. But when i moved them to another place, they suddenly started to grow very fast. So maybe, you can try this.

Thanks guys for your replies.

Here's a picture of my growkit "working". At the back you can see a electric heater, maybe that's the problem (it dries air quite a bit).

Anyway I moved my kit away from the heater (still ~23 *C), but so far there has been no change.

Could the blue-greenish mould in one corner be some kind of infection?

Do you think I can still save my mushrooms? If no, can I reuse the box?

Thanks a lot!

Jup! Infected it is :)
The biggest one are ready to harvest!

The advice they give is to throw the kit out.
But I had an infected box one and still ate them all.
But don't re-use it!

Keep the bag and sterrilate it.

Maybe cutting out the infected part would save the other? (aboud 1/3 is uninfected)

Sure there's no way to fight the infection and save them all? Really sad to watch them die like this, i have been growing them like my own children for the past 3 weeks.. And 50g of mushrooms is not what I expected from a €50 grow box :(

If you work very sterile you can harvest up to 5 times (and sometimes more) fresh shrooms from one kit.
That is 50 euro for 5 harvests, that like 10 euro per harvest.

If you really like growing mushrooms as your own children take a look at:

mushplanet.com a fantastic website in English and other languages.
For 50 euro you can make your own kit, only much much much bigger!

The biggest expense in growing shrooms is the pressurecooker.

yeah i know that.. just that i brought my kit from amsterdam (long way from here) and if you say that throwing away is the only thing i can do with my kit (after harvesting 5 mushrooms), then it's kind of sad :(

are you sure i cannot save the 1/3 pretty much healthy part?

All I'm saying

The basics recommend to throw away the kit ou as soon it's infected.

You can try to remove the infection, all shrooms and go for another flush.
All the luck.

And I repeat: even I ate from an infected shroomkit, my first growkit was infected was well. Didn't bother me, and I survived lol
But after that harvest I threw it out and ordered me golden teachers kit.
Now I'm trying to pull pf-tek off.
That costed me only 25 euro on azarius.net

And if you do it completely yourself you can be much cheaper of.
Take some jars from gelly orso, make a substrate, put them in the jars, sterilize, inject it with spores from a syringe.
Place it on the dark at 30°C for few weeks, if the mycelium is white you have succeeded.
Now let the mycilium come out of the jar and place it in a filterbag or curverbox.
It's possible you harvest after only few days you're first shrooms.

Infection spreads on the microscopic level, so it is impossible to remove the infection. Some infections can be deadly, throw out your kit and restart. What is more important, your health and/or life, or some mushrooms? I have been through this before, flushing over an OZ of dried mushrooms down the toilet because they came from infected cakes.

PEACE & LOVE

30°C is to hot and makes any posible infection grow faster . The best thing to do is get yourself some serious books written by experts . They dont talk shit , they have a reputation to defend and have their information from years of hands on practice . Dont listen to clowns with no real experience who have their "information" from other clowns from looser web sites .

30°C and darkness is the perfect condition for mycelium to grow.
22°C, air and humidity is perfect for the fruiting (shrooms)

Place the inoculated jars in a warm and dark place. The ideal temperature is 28-30°C. A cupboard above the fridge for example is a nice place. The fridge creates warmth at the back and heat always goes up. You can also use some heat elements. Now the work is done for a while, as the spores need time to germinate and develop themselves.

In case you misread, I was talking about letting the spores germinate.

When I grew mushrooms the temp was 26-27 and it was just perfect. 30 is quite high indeed.

Perhaps Cannafarmer is right, and 30°C is the best temperature for mycelium to grow, BUT keep in mind that you only want one kind of mycelium in your jar

I'm not talking about the mushroom!
I said after you injected your substrate place it in a dark place at 30°C, for the mycilium to grow.

That's all I said.

And mycelium grows on so many substances.
I am trying PF-TEK right now.
And I've done a lot of reading on that.

30°C is indeed quite high for the mushroom itself.
But the mushrooms are in fact the fruit, and the mycilium is in fact the plant.
In some weird kind of way :)

Canna , I understand what you are saying and why you are saying it . I know that there are lots of sites giving advice . I stoped looking at them because they are often full of pseudo facts and confusing storys . I think its best to get oneself a few books from some acepted experts and learn from them . As for temperature , contaminents usualy do better than mushrooms at higher temperatures . So its better to go for a temperature where the most contaminents dont grow so good as the mushrooms . P.Cubensis doesnt need lower temperatures to fruit . It fruits when its ready , when the nutrients that it has reach a certain level . They grow in cow shit outside . The temperature changes there between day and night and not so much between the days the myceleum grows and the days where it fruits .

Good luck with PF .

Okay, i threw away my kit.. :( Gonna hold a memorial service later on :D

however i'm gonna order a new one from azarius soon

edit: harvest was 50g fresh, i guess i'll have to do with that :)

Cannafarmer a dit:
I'm not talking about the mushroom!
I said after you injected your substrate place it in a dark place at 30°C,

I was also talking about that. Have you actually put your jar in 30°C for the mycelium to colonise yourself? How did it work out?

If88, I'm sorry to hear! But experiences makes you wise :)
If I were you, I'd ordered the pf-tek method (starters kit) and after that further examination can begin :)

OK I see your point now God :)

No Meduzz, it is not perfectly 30°C. (more 27°)
I placed them in a small carton box and that I placed on my DVD player.
(it's always nice and warm)

I only injected it last friday, so it can take more then a week before the jars are fully colonized.

Here some photo's to show you how I did it:

I mixed the riceflour and vermiculite and added 500ml water

I sterlizied it:

I injected it (the trained eye can see I made a mistake with my first jar, luckely I have four :)

And placed them in a carton box on my dvd player.
Nice and warm, no light.
After two weeks I'll take a little mycelium to throw it in another spawnbag to colonize that.
The rest is for fruiting :D
