So I used salvia 5x for the first time with two other buddies who had never tried it. We were given two instructions when we bought it, take big rip from a bong and hold that shit in.

So we expected a mild little trip, being that its legal... We chose a scenic spot right by the ocean. We smoked it in the car not expecting the trip to come on us in 30 sec... From that point we were out of out minds, it was nearly scary. I was sucked out of reality and heard voices talking to me and had completely forgotten that I had smoked it. I tried to get out of the car but couldn't figure out the door, when i did get out I had to get right back in because I was acting crazy and people where staring.

Coming down in the car was horrible, I felt trapped and pissed off at my friends for not letting me out.

Then I did it three more times and it was amazing, shit even the first time was amazing, it just caught me off guard.

But seriously they need better packaging on those things so that people understand just how insane the trips can be and how quickly they come on you.

One question, how does salvia stack up against LSD and shrooms?

Well, this will teach you that before trying some substance you should find out more about it. I mean, with alcohol and prolly weed, you know what is going to happen, because you know people who do it and see what happens to them. But you prolly don't know that many people who do Salvia, let alone people who do Salvia when you are there with them. Therefore, you should always research the thing you are going to do (http://www.sagewisdom.org, for example). Don't blame others or the packaging for your ignorance. I'm glad you didn't hurt yourself, though, and happy that you had an amazing time. Remember that Salvia is a drug you have to learn to use (just as most other substances) and that the trips will become better.

Salvia compared with shrooms or acid:

* salvia lasts much shorter 15min vs 6(light shroom trip) to 16/24 hours (heavy LSD trip)

* with Salvia, you're right in it after 30 seconds or less, with the others, it takes an hour, hour and a half before you're really peaking.

* I'd say that Salvia gives you weirder hallucinations, it has a weirder feel to it, a feel that is not of this earth. It rather seems as if it is a wholly different dimension of space and time. Shrooms make you feel more in contact with this world and this universe. Acid brings on a cosmic consciousness if used sensibly.

* Because of this, Salvia is less tied to emotions. With shrooms I experience a sense of cosmic unity and love. With Salvia I do not feel emotions like this. I experience some sort of joy, which is inexpressible, but it is more the laugh you get out of a good joke than that you can get out of the experience that all is love and all is one. I once tried to explain what was going on in my trip to my sitter and all I could do is laugh, because words were just not the right medium to transfer this feeling.

* When smoking Salvia, you tend to forget that you do (as you already experienced). This happens with shrooms and acid, but only with very high doses.

* You are less in control with Salvia than with the other two. I can pretty much do whatever I want (although it is harder than normal) when I use shrooms or acid (again, with higher doses this is more difficult) than when I use Salvia. In the latter case, I just sit or lie down and observe. Can't be bothered to stand up. The same holds within the trip. Suggestion really steers your trip with shrooms and acid, with Salvia, I have the feeling that the drug itself suggests what to do.

This is all I can come up with from the top of my head, there are probably more. Please add to the list, this is valuable information for newbies.

While your right that I should have researched better before I smoked the salvia. I don't think that you can deny that companies should have better packaging. The fact is that the products are available at retail outlets, where just about anyone can buy them. Because of this the makers should take some responsibility and describe how to use the product and more importantly what it will do to you. The companies are lucky enough that what they sell its legal. I think the best best way they can attempt to keep their product legal is to make sure that its safely used so that people don't start a crusade against it... Not that I would be one, but this issue seems important to me just for plain safety issues.

hmm about the looking up information about it first
its true but, that doesnt mean the producer shouldnt have atleast put something on the package about the fact that it comes in like 30 seconds..
and its not obvious everyone has the "options" to look up information about this drug
maybe u dont have a computer or internet, in these days its very unlikely but one shouldnt presume that somebody could look up something about a drug even if he wanted to

you could have asked the shopkeeper? seriously man youre not going to buy something that you dont know, and smoke it? a very small bit of research would have gotten you to the salvia divinorum user guide:
http://www.sagewisdom.org/usersguide.html

there isnt any warning on beer either "You might get drunk when drinking this!" so i fail to see the problem. also packages would probably too small to explain enough about salvia and how you should use it.

I think both the client and shopkeeper who sells the stuff have a responsibility in this case. Ofcourse the shopkeeper should at least gave the customer some information about the product when he sold it. At the other hand its also the clients responsibility to inform or at least know what you are dealing with before taking anything. Its you body , don't you want to know what you are taking ?

Don't know in which country this took place but if it was in Holland it think the shopkeeper is a bit more responsible that the client in this case. All info about this (still) legal herb is well available here and most Smartshops do have the info and are able to give this info.

Smartshops in other countries might nog be so forthcoming with info about this herb because they will be sold as : insence only. In most country this herb might be legal but this does not mean that does not fall under some health regulations once its presented as a herb to smoke or consume.

To keep these kind of of herbs legal its also important things do not become to big , once things are sold on a massive scale they will get in the picture and people will bann or make these herb illegal.

But ofcourse making incidents by selling stuff without any information is also not a way to handel this.

in the smartshop where I sometimes go
I get all the information I need and more :)
I always have a chat with him about the drug and his experiences with it
I love going there sometimes I dont buy anything but just have a chat hehe and take a look around
well anyways a 2 small package to put stuff on is kinda a lame excuse :P
they could give a folder or something with it

If you simply look at www.sagewisdom.org, or Google "Salvia Divinorum", you will get several hits with FAQS.

From a legal stand point, at least in the US, you can't say that it's for human consumption, any more than people selling whippits can say, "Hey- don't take a huge hit of this while your driving..." Even stores that sell pipes can't sell them to you if you mention any controlled substance. So, the number one rule of the psychonaut is to know your substance. It has to be your responsibiltiy. However, when I first bought some 17X, the owner said, "Have you done this before?" I said no. She said, "well, make sure that you are sitting or laying down, don't operate heavy machinery, and definitely do not drive," and gave me a one page fact sheet. That was very helpful. But there is such a fine line between selling salvia and glass pipes, and being fined by undercover police that I'm sure workers get paranoid, so I would always, always, always do the research yourself.

There is also a site called www.erowid.org that lists people's experiences, both good and bad, dosage, the law, effects and chemical properties. It lists just about anything you could think of.
