oka i am currently soking my female inner bud leaves in acetone to extract the thc...........no i was wondering if i could {after i had dried it to a resin} get some of the plant waxes out using naptha? to get it more pure?

anyone???

'cough'

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

yeah, acetone will extract everything, including bad stuff, which is why we dont see it used as an organic extraction solvent.

Usually the whole point of 'extracting' anything is to achieve a degree of selectivity in your solvent choice, acetone is about the king of non selective hydrocarbon solvents.

I never liked naptha as a solvent, it is a lazy solvent, but it's use as a de-fatting solvent in the extraction of mimosa (dmt) makes use of these qualities, but you have two hydrocarbon solvents.....usually any two hydrocarbons are miscible in each other to whatever degree.

The only way an extraction works at all is that what you're extracting is soluble while the rest is insoluble. If your solvents dissolve in each other, (a property chemically known as 'miscibility'), then you can't extract anything....you must have two layers so garbage can be left behind in one of them.

Do a test and mix naptha and acetone in a beaker or jar, and see if they dissolve in each other...this gives you the answer to your question.

To my understanding, the two superior ways ro extract these goodies are;

Ice-o-lator, which I have heard great things about,

and

butane, which is usually done thru a pipe, and is an explosion hazard.

good luck

The best thing i have found for cannabis oil extraction is a thing we call wound benzine in my country . Also known as petro-ether . ( Wich is not ether ) Wich you can buy for 12 euros a liter here from chemists . The lower the evaporation point of the petrol derivative solvent the better and smaller the extract is in my experience . Petro-ether evaporates totaly . By using aceton you have a big problem . Try mixing it with some petrol typ solvent that evaporates at a higher temperature than aceton before you dry it and then shake it up a lot . ( Once you have a dryish gunk its much harder to extract the THC containing oil and you get much less ). Then mix some water into it and shake it again . The acetone mixes slightly with the petro ether and then when you add the water most of the aceton mixes with the water . Separate the wate /acetonr layer off and then heat the aceton off the rest . Then filter it with a coffee filter and throw the bit that stays in the filter away . If you didnt heat the grass up to 250f for 15 minutes before you started forget the whole thing , the THC acids have to be decarboxilated to THC to make them work .

Alchohols are often used for oil extraction ethanol being the best .

I forgot to say keep washing it with water till the water doesnt change colour any more .
