I'd like to know what readers think of flag burning;

speech?

treason?

why?

http://www.lsureveille.com/angry-crowd- ... -1.2562076

These are the idiots in my neck of the woods

Obviously their 'professors' have failed them, since this has been affirmed to be 'speech' by the Supreme court, and they don't know much about pre-hitlerian Germany in the 30's (Hint: pretty much looked like the embedded video link shows)

IGNORANT IGNORANT

I would like to know, What you think a flag is, Particularly a National flag? :)

a symbol, what do you think it is?

(the law says burning it is constitutionally protected speech, so our opinion on 'what it is' doesn't really matter, I dont think)

A National flag is a symbol of a Nations Identity, Just becuase one person diagrees with the american way of life or foriegn affairs they wish to burn a symbol of National Identity.

Its a statement that most sheep just read as "Death to America", I think sometimes people forget they are the minority...

The constitution is out dated.

Different time era's, Different views....

It can ONLY be a symbol. To me, they may as well put a picture of a factory.....to others it's a sublime statement

BUT THAT DONT MATTER

It is legally protected speech yet the cops escorted this guy off the uni grounds.

Why didnt they do their jobs and GUARD HIM he wasnt breaking the law.

Rioting IS against the law

Threatening

that is too

need more?

Im not disagreeing, Only trying to help you understand why people act like they do.

We are not all lawyers either so know very little about what the law and constitution say and the notion of patriotism in America over rules all, especially in the mentally challenged which has become the majority.

spice a dit:
So what, everyone owns the symbol but the dissenters?

come on you have better than that man

On the view of flag burning, You may as well of been african and tried burning a KKK hood at a meeting.
The police escorted the guy away for his own safety in my view, Imagine what the crowd would have done to him if he had no police protection. If he even managed to light the flag before being punched in the face by some angry jumped up football player high on patriotism armed with public backing, He would of been mauled and possibly killed by the mob.

Seems he had a lucky escape, Majority rules but it does not make it right ;)

P.S. If he really wanted to make a statement he should design his own flag, Be it a remake of the USA flag or one of his own and put it on everything he wears so that people will ask him about it and he can tell them all about his cause 8)

ah true

on the subject of police protection of this guy-

what you may not and probably dont know is that this university is the college of 'Dukes of Hazzard'

at a football game a few years back about 200 meters from where that incident took place, the 'fans' were getting arrested for things like :throwing bricks at other team buses and inciting their own riots over a much more worthwhile subject;

college football rivalry

Here is another point; You will NEVER EVER EVER see a place withmore police than where that uni is at, this state is #1 IN THE ENTIRE WORLD in prison population per capita there are PLENTY of police that could have controlled a group MUCH larger than these few hundred students

Have you forgotten what they did when hurricane Katrina happened?

They controlled 500,000 people with ease, sticki I was there

These are the same police that are always begging for more funding on TV while babbling about upholding the law and giving kids here 12 years in jail for 2 crack rocks and a stolen TV

there is no excuse

Its an exercise to rally public support, Why would you want people congregating to be anti-american?

Now people rallying for government support, happens every year...

The world is a stage and when fear is envolved control is sought from the stongest leader, It rules out the wolves from the sheep :)

Also, katrina and Flag burning are two very different situations.

katrina = Scared sheep in need of help.

Flag Burning = Patriotism and flared anger, Some may go as far as to take a life or lay down thier own.

They truelly cannot be compared in my honest opinion :)

The best example is the 9/11 attacks, Americans are told for a long time that the middle east hate them and wish to over throw them. They are not concerned tho, Sticks and stones after all. However, Implement an attack against the nation and all of a sudden you have the support of the entire world to raid the middle east under the disguise of the war on terror while removing civil rights at the request of the people of the world in a bid to feel safe and making select private companies and often more so certain people rich and powerfull.

None of this would of been possible with out hurting the ID of the Nation to create the patriotic reaction.

"Its an exercise to rally public support, Why would you want people congregating to be anti-american"?

For the same EXACT reason we went to war with England. its called 'oppression'....'excessive taxation'.....

I think that the so-called patriots are the lost sheeple

None of what you said alters this fact:

The Police aided and abetted lawbreaking, did it on TV, then refused to do their jobs (not news to anyone that lives here) and arrest the people who were the ONLY contributors to the situation being 'volatile', the 'patriots'.....and then, to add insult to injury they have the nerve to think that we are too stupid to reason out that what they did was indeed illegal

when you protect lawbreakers thats called 'accessory'

when I broke the law they put me in jail

I agree with the basis of what you are saying. I already understand why people act as they do, what I dont understand is how people can just have their noses rubbed in this Orwellian-1984-not-so-brave new world order and act like it isnt happening

You dont have to be a lawyer to understand that displays are speech, it has been reported many times in the national news that flag burning is protected speech.

and that slogan- 'To serve and protect' (its on every police car)

doesnt say -'serve and protect those who you like'

The most un-American thing soemone can do is stifle free speech, no matter what form it takes.

Three points:

1) Burning a flag - Legal, but triggers an emotional response. Think of all the flags on the cars post 9/11. I agree that racism, delusion, and mob mentality often mask themselves under patriotism. In fact, patriotism is heavily linked to imagery (obviously), which means that in many ways, it's all a matter of perspective. You're mad at cops for thinking like the majority, but that's the whole point. Who hires people, the majority. So why would a government employee be any different. I know the concepts that are so well written, but the written word and the reality are often times different:
[youtube]

2) Good transition to the irony that burning money is illegal. Which should make you think about the fact that you then never really own the money you hold. It's a promise, a document, that can't be destroyed, and it's only value is your perceived faith in it.

3) The deep south. Spice, this one is tough. The problem is that engrained values and conditioned mentalities are ironically harder to break in stupid people. A rational person can admit when they're wrong (and often they do). An ignorant person only has his ignorance to support him. Change can come, but to infiltrate deeply into places it's not welcome is an incredibly slow process.

Do you really think America went to war with Britain becuase of opression and taxation alone?
The world is a stage and there was alot more to be gained by creating a playground of the rich and powerfull.

Patriotism is played upon to stir emotion, Alot of people from all walks of life are lost but that is the plan as you know.

The police are there to protect and to serve the state, If you are acting against the state as an individual you are dangerous and wreckless. If you fit into a bigger picture you begin to play a role, The police are there to protect and serve the states best interests.
Eventually all criminals will be cracked down on when they no longer have a role or become too big for thier boots, Nothing is for free after all...

Getting angry will do nothing for you in these situations other then block your logical thought processes and make you noticable to the law if you decide to act.
Its exactly what they want if you ask me, If your all emotional you are far from logical.

The Chinese finger trap comes to mind, Struggle and suffer...
Learn the system and success follows, Inspire by example :)

a couple weeks ago 6 highschool boys tracked down a black guy and killed him, beat him to death.
