Acorus calamus, also commonly known as "sweet flag", is sold in some Dutch smart shops as a ground powder. I purchased it once two small portions in A'dam. It originated from the ppl who sell the Herbs of the Gods collection...
Personally, I didn't feel any noteworthy effects. But I do remember very vividly the extremely bitter taste of the tea I made with it. Actually, I had to force myself to consume all of the prepared tea.
Acorus calamus is advertised as a hallucinogenic plant with mild stimulating properties. This might be true and not true. The hallucinogenic effects are derived from the main component, asaron (2,4,5-trimethoxypropenyl benzene). However, asaron is only present in high concentrations in Asian Acorus calamus. It makes only 5% of European varieties and is usually only found in trace amounts in American species. The native Indian Americans used sweet flag for its stimulating properties (and also gave it to their horses). The stimulating effect, however, cannot be generated by asaron (since it is almost absent).
But if you like a taste of bitter, I'd say: go ahead. I can promise you that you'll never forget that part of the experience
