alternative for tobacco?

I quit with the help of nicotine gum last November, and it worked really well.
At first I only got some nicotine gum out of interest, and decided to just try and leave the cigarettes at home one day and see if the nicotine gum would keep me away from buying cigarettes.
I had not known before that I had picked the worst day. I was going to film a wedding that day - I usually don't do that, but it was to help out a friend who had signed a contract and his cameraman had become sick.
I didn't know anybody in advance, and it turned out that the groom, the bride and like all of their friends and relatives were avid smokers... I wouldn't have made it for more than two hours if it hadn't been for the nicotine gums. I think I chewed like 20 of them that day - but I didn't touch a cigarette!
After that day I thought "I managed to get through this without smoking, so nothing can stop me now!" I was right - but without the nicotine gums I would have started smoking again on 5 out of 6 days in the first week.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to reduce the gums, but it just happened gradually. About two months ago I realized I wasn't really chewing them anymore. Now I just keep them with me for difficult situations, and I chew like 2 per week.

I have to say it wasn't difficult at all because the nicotine gums really take away the urge to smoke. As soon as you feel you really need a cigarette, you chew one and 5 minutes later you feel like if you had just smoked a cigarette and you don't really need one now. With the help of this you can easily break all the habits of cigarette breaks and stuff, and then the urgent need to smoke a cigarette in certain situations just fades with time.
 
real chewing tobacco is not too bad tasting, and helped me cut back alot...no on the other hand snuff/dip is really gross and might make u sick

Haha yeah. Cloves aren't good for your gastrointestinal tract. And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clove#Toxicity *gulp*

That's likely if you inject them. I don't know many people who eat cigarettes...

However, cloves get you lightheaded. It's more of an up 'high' than the down feeling of when you smoke tobacco, for me at least.
 
Coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara) has been used as an alternative to tobacco.

Yeah, chewing tobacco is also kind of gross, coloring your mouth all brown and you have to spit it out every few minutes.
It is also quite bad for your mucous membrane.

If you want to chew something with nicotine, I'd really go for the nicotine gums: they taste almost like normal fresh mint gums, and the only "bad stuff" they contain is 2mg of pure nicotine.

I know it's not "natural" - but you're not supposed to chew it forever. It's just a means to get you off of your nicotine habit (and it's a lot healthier than smoking cigarettes!)


P.S.: I once tried to quit smoking by replacing cigarettes with snuff (tobacco). It worked until I had almost ruined my nose with the stuff. I developed kind of an allergy to it and got sneezing attacks every time I would snort the stuff. Gums worked a lot better, trust me!
