We need to spread the word here in America concerning this powerful tool to fight unfair drug laws....this weapon has a long and storied history of successful use against unfair laws and heavy handed enforcement...

It's called 'Jury Nullification' and it is something that law abiding men and women who are sympathetic to the constitutional plight of victims of the so-called 'war on drugs' can use to fight the system, WITHOUT BREAKING THE LAW.

see here:

according to our second president, John Adams:

"It is not only his right but his duty...to find the verdict according to his own best understanding, judgment, and conscience, though in direct opposition to the direction of the court."

"Thomas Jefferson said, "I consider trial by jury as the only anchor yet imagined by man, by which a government can be held to the principles of its constitution."

If this information can be disseminated, it ushers in a new era, by returning to an old one, where the normal citizen, not personally embroiled in the 'war on drugs', can assert his own belief, and forcefully, that the governments persecution of people in this area is not just wrong, but blatantly unconstitutional.

Spread the word.....

( I'm thinking about making up a bunch of flyers, and hiring some kids for 20$ a pop to go around sticking them under windshields at malls and downtown....i'm serious...you wanna do something? Do something...anything)

great!! thats cool spice!! i think its good if its not always discussing and argueing sometimes this leads to greater shit or doesn't lead to anything. so spreading flyers or really doing anything is a good thing. :P

let the truth be known!

peace.

Well, you know, they have managed to polarize everyone so completely on this issue....that IS the source of the stalemate, I believe.....most law-abiding citizens have a 'nothing I can do, even if I wanted to' attitude about it.

There is something that everyone can do, its just a matter of thinking about it long enough.

In turning their own institutions against them, and using their own favorite weapon, TRADITION, against them, a novel way of fighting them can be utilized by all Americans, and whats so cool, is this is a previously neutralized faction of the public, who have been powerless to do anything except what they're instructed to do....its never occurred to many that the judge wasn't FULLY instructing them of their constitutional duties, but that is exactly what has been taking place.

Combine this with the tactic of forcing trial, misdemeanor or felony, and the entire criminal justice system related to the drug war would collapse, and it would be over, fast.

...and it could happen, if everyone really wanted ot to.

thats right!

but unfortunately i have the impression that sometimes the people don't really count so much for the government people and the big industry bosses ??

theres more interesting stuff for them in the game than citizens. the action is also behind the curtains.

Yes, and the passivity that has been so ingrained in us is wht lets that go on. Only when people stand up, in whatever way necessary and available, and DO SOMETHING, can you get these bastards to pay attention.

I have a gut feeling that a lot of people WOULD hang juries like this, especially once they realize that they cannot be retaliated against.

Why, oh naive spice, some are asking as they read this, would you assume that they would not be retaliated against....?

Because no one has to explain their motivations for hanging a jury to anyone.
