Hi,
I have recently planted seeds in a germination chamber, most of which have sprouted already (within 1 week of planting). I used biodegradable peat pots for the seeds, as the growing plant does not transplant well. When i took a look at the chamber this morning i found that the outside of the peat pots were covered in a layer of white, hairy/cobweb-like fungus with some green patches in places - I may have introduced too much moisture directly to the pots and I realise that the peat pots were probably not suitable for germination, under these conditions. I could transplant them now, to fresh peat pots and try to control the moisture and humidity but i'd prefer a solution that would be effective and cause the least amount of stress on the seedlings.I would like any information on how serious the mould could affect the growth and life of the plant, as the mould is only visible on the outside of the pot, could it be isolated to this area or could it be rooting itself deeper into the soil? Also is there is anything that can be done to eradicate the problem as they stand at the moment, is it possible to kill the fungus without causing considerable damage to the plant???
Any advice or a shared experience would be much appreciated.
